Washed my chair mat and now it smells all plasticky like it's brand new?

There is so so so much dust I was previously unaware of in our house.
We are getting removalists* in to move some furniture around and it's amazing how much you still have to pack to get each item ready. *one item of which is a super awkward antique that needs someone with experience and insurance, otherwise we'd do it ourselves.

Posting once more for luck. We have had such a great response – it's going to be a great con!

Made an omelette featuring spring onion and rocket from my garden that I thought would be epic but it was only meh so I'm disappointed but nourished.
Either a truck driver (both grandfathers) or birthing 11 babies (both grandmothers). As much as I hate driving I'm opting for the trucker life.
Enough “what would you do on the commune questions” If you got sent back 100 years and were given your grandparent’s job, what are you doing?
I often rant about how many emails online shops send (from the moment you buy something online through to the whole logistics process) but nothing is more bizarre than the eBay thing I bought last week that arrived the next day... but they're still sending emails about its delivery?

Trying to give away my partner's matinee ticket to the Sydney Symphony is mental load I didn't need today. Apparently they don't exchange within 2 days? But what if you're sick?!
Oh this is interesting. There's one in Auburn I'd been meaning to check out. For some reason I thought they were a Melbourne business because I had only ever seen them in Melbourne.
Savers rolls into Geelong. Big US chain, cheap prices. But every dollar spent there leaves town. Local op shops? That money stays. Pick where your $5 matters. #auspol #vicpol https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-07-18/us-thrift-chain-savers-arrival-unsettles-geelong-op-shops/106926136
Hey @kirstywebeck.bsky.social, I narrowly avoided going to see the stromatolites (my partner is a mega nerd) on my recent trip to WA because apparently the duckboards to get to the good stuff were damaged. Maybe next time?
I have always been Book Aunty because I go to a lot of events and often get books autographed for my niblings. Today my sis told me my nephew wants his Book Week costume to be Roy from 'That Bird Has Arms' (which I got him last year) and honestly, I couldn't be prouder.
That Bird Has Arms - The Children’s Book Council of Australia
Roy is an ordinary bird in every way. He is not the biggest, or the smallest. His squawk is not the loudest or the quietest. He even follows the same football team as everyone else. […]

Authors, I am begging you to tell me in your bio/on your website which city you live in. I am planning an event but we have no travel budget so we want to invite local authors.

Could someone please explain the idiom "balls to the wall"?
Sam Neill’s final films tell us a lot about who he was as an actor – and why we’ll miss him | Luke Buckmaster
People are going to talk about Sam Neill's performance in blockbusters like 'Jurassic Park' or literary films like 'My Brilliant Career' but he'll always be Merlin to me. (And my fave movie of his remains 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople'.) RIP. You were a good 'un.
"how were people writing 10 page papers before AI???" we were smarter than you. you could've been smart, too. but you sold your brain for nothing
Me: I reckon if the world goes to shit, my bushcraft skills will keep me alive for a while. Also me: My fingers are so dry I keep getting small cuts on them, so I won't eat those mandarins this week.

Am running a substantial tea event on Sunday and a bunch of people have told me they'll come but I can see the event dashboard and I know they haven't bought tickets and it's stressing me out?
Robbie Arnott is an absolute pleasure as a writers' festival guest so I was a bit hesitant about actually reading his work (too many nice people have written crap books) but we're doing 'The Rain Heron' for book club and he's got the goods.
This is so baffling to me? Surely the whole joy of fanfic is writing it?!
AI use in fanfics being called out with actual data and not just vibes. Some big name fics and writers are found to be using claude. #popcorngif
Remind me someone, How do you make a haiku? I forgot again.
When I write anything new, I always save it locally and to a cloud account. Being super paranoid, I also send a copy to a web-based email address. I keep a folder of all those copies throughout the process in the email account. It *used* to be that I would subsequently delete all the backups... 1/?
I have a Microsoft Comfort Curve keyboard (which they no longer make that I love and will never willingly part with) and just did a full clean – keys off, cotton buds, mini vacuum cleaner – and now it looks great but it doesn't feel right when I type. There was a surprising amount of hair in there.
