I don’t want this point to be lost in the discourse. Going digital-only means inequity for people who cannot afford internet or constantly purchasing new games. Libraries provide opportunities for people to experience games they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford, and that will be lost.

My child loves going to the library and checking out a new video game every week. Going digital only eliminates libraries as a way people can access games.

Saying we should all go back to physical media I think misses the point. I actually *like* buying games and movies digitally for a bunch of reasons. What we need is better consumer protections so the things we do buy digitally are actually owned and companies cant delete/revoke access!

my radical gaming opinion is that id rather see 10-15 year old games getting their source code release rather than be republished by some bloodsucking ghoul publisher like a limited run games. i dont feel its preservation if you effectively just release a rom in a launcher for $25 on a new system

I keep seeing people thinking this is a bluesky problem. If you're seeing this it thinks you're in a state or country with age verification laws. This is what every social media site will do if KOSA and the KIDS Act succeeds. Running to another socmed won't fix it, we have to fight the source.

People need to realise that this doesn't end at digital only. Sooner or later you won't be able to purchase games at all, everything will be on a subscription / rental model. And then everything will be streaming only. And then they'll find some other way to squeeze us further.
