Ashon had to have emergency surgery. He's going to be OK, but he's still hospitalized and won't be able to teach this semester as planned—or walk Speckles. The love between Ashon and this dog is so precious. It would mean a lot to be able to tell him that Speckles will be attended to while he heals.

He earned his medical degree from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), a Master of Public Health from Rutgers University in New Jersey, and completed his psychiatric residency at the University of Minnesota. He has studied internationally in France, Greece, Germany, and Poland.
Jonas is a member of the Minnesota Refugee and Immigrant Writers Group. He writes in Haitian Creole, French, Spanish, and English. He is a 2014 Spanish-language winner of the United Nations’ Many Languages, One World (MLOW) essay contest. What the Ground Couldn’t Shake is his debut memoir.
