Not many celebrity deaths really get to me but Bob Uecker was special. When I was living in Milwaukee for 8 years, Ueck’s announcing could make a terrible baseball game listenable. Many weekend afternoons working outdoors or in the basement were spent listening to his stories. tinyurl.com/bd68pn5f

Bob Uecker, the voice of the team on the airwaves for 54 years, a Baseball Hall of Famer and local, statewide and national icon, died Thursday.

So many sad conversations over the past couple of weeks about the future of diversity in science. If we lose programs to promote diversity, science will be worse off for it.

With all this talk about cutting the NIH, might I remind everyone that the entire NIH budget is less than 5% of the DoD budget. The NIH is so efficient that they already rely upon volunteer labor to do grant review. And they are not even allowed to buy grant reviewers coffee.

Always a pleasure to join @kavehmd.bsky.social, especially when it's to talk shit about lying grifters who are out to destroy public health and add to their already sizable body counts. Also, because my mood is increasingly pessimistic and miserable, I talk about H5N1 and its pandemic potential.

Proud of my dad Lynn Enquist .. On #VeteransDay it is important to recognize those who served in the US Public Service Health Service. #USPHS is dedicated to the nation's public health & Science. Most don’t know about USPHS & it’s role in protecting us & that it is one of the uniformed services 🧪🛟

Picture of Lynn Enquist - On Veterans Day it is important to also recognize those who served in the US Public Service Health Service. The USPHS Commissioned Corps works on the front lines of public health. They are an elite team of highly qualified public health professionals dedicated to delivering the nation's public health programs and advancing public health Science. Although not an armed service, it is part of the uniformed services. Lynn is a veteran of the Public Health Service. He served 9 years as Lt. Commander and then promoted to Commander at the National Institute of Health (NIH). I am so very proud of his service to the country.

After my observation that limited numbers of HSV and PRV virions transmit from axons, I was lucky enough to start my own lab at Montana State University. As we got going, I became increasingly obsessed with the timing of virion transmission from axons.
