I don't know man, sounds to me like socialists are just regular people who think their taxes should be used to somewhat improve society rather than making super rich people even more money.
There's demand for cheap, low quality goods because good portion of population is extremely impoverished, and not expression of mass frugality. It's a side effect of living in extremely unequal world.
I think my most genuinely unpopular take is that a widely held and genuine consumer preference for cheaper, lower-quality goods, not private equity, is driving the decline in quality of consumer goods like clothing and housewares.
