Here for art, tech, cat memes, & some occasional cloud shouting about nothing of consequence. Head of IT for a zangy boomy ADR studio in SoCal. (What few missives & musings I share are entirely my own.)

reminder that history has always been multiple events happening concurrently, but humans having the ability to see these events unfold in practically live-time is VERY new because of the internet. we were not built to handle this level of constant stress. 🧶(+)

If you're even a _tiny_ bit into security and privacy, pay attention to this one. A court filing in a case against cyberhacker Peter Stokes revealed Microsoft's GDID embedded in EVERY Win11 install provided the FBI the ability to trace his PC across VPNs(!!) & proxies(!!) across three countries.

Microsoft admits Windows 11 has a GDID tracker with no off switch, first documented publicly in an FBI hacker complaint

GDID is the persistent Windows ID that helped FBI trace a Scattered Spider hacker despite VPNs. Here's how it works and how to limit it.

Nobody talks about how Lain is half film & half digital, so it's always changing frame rates. The show FEELS different on a CRT in 480i. Also, they COMPLETELY changed the colors for the HD releases. People aren't gaslighting you. The VHS version legitimately looks like a completely different anime.

Doing a rewatch of Contact. Free to watch legit on YouTube. At 57:16 there's a scene of fans crowding the observatory, one with a sign offering UFO abduction insurance by the "St. Laurence Agency". I looked that up, and guess what? That's actually real. $25 gets you $10M coverage. www.ufo2001.com

Sony buying the anime industry and then immediately trying to kill physical media is insane to me. Anime only exists because of DVD and blu-ray sales. They are throwing a horse in the ocean and telling it to evolve into a whale

I only have a Fan membership, which means that I will not be able to access this store. I would have to pay an extra $4 a month / $48 a year.

Crunchyroll's membership tiers.

Fan is $9.99 a month
Mega Fan is $13.99 a month
and Ultimate Fan is $17.99 a month

sometimes I get a glimpse into the heavily parasocial sections of fandom spaces and it makes me REALLY glad I'll never be the face of anything. Once someone becomes known enough to become a meme people stop seeing them as a person at ALL and will just say the wildest shit abt them like it's normal

I’d like to see this because I’m a glutton for punishment, but what I’d like more is a big Blu-ray box of all extant tenchi anime, the LETS JUST SEE HOW MUCH OF THIS YOU GET THROUGH, COWARD collection

NEW TENCHI MUYO! ANIME PRE-LAUNCH PAGE! Kiyone, Nagi, and Ken-Ohki set to return for all-new adventures! Directed by none other than Hiroshi Negishi! www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7D6... #tenchimuyo #天地無用

it happened, crunchyroll ate right stuf and then just let the macross licenses float away down the river this sort of thing happens more than you might think. but man, I spent like 2 years thinking "they couldnt possibly, the production work is DONE, so why...?" aaaaand it's gone to anime ltd.

Obviously the meme is going around, but apparently it's kind of us all being Jebaited. Looks like in December Anime Limited is releasing the Blu-Rays of Macross Delta. And apparently also Macross Frontier, which is the one I'm much more interested in. So we got derailed four years but IT'S HAPPENING
