Over the past few years, particularly since 2017's worldwide March for Science, many scientists advocate for science and in particular for climate and environmental issues. This has generated a lot of research which we reviewed in our @plosclimate.org paper. Details below #Science #Climate #Activism

Should scientists advocate for climate action? Our new review @plosclimate.org finds there is no single answer. The effects of scientist advocacy depend heavily on context, including who is speaking, what they are advocating for, and who is listening. Open access: journals.plos.org/climate/arti...

Not to belabour the point, as others have made it, but a lot of the social scientific takes on the Belfast pogroms emanating from England and placing them in a pattern with recent race riots *in* England, don’t really take specificities like this into account.

Via Irish News 'Some of the children and young people who took to the streets during racist disorder in Belfast last week were there to clear debts for drugs and loans to paramilitaries, according to the Commissioner for Children and Young People.' [3/n]

When utilized in literature review, LLMs consistently 1. fail to mention female authors in female-led literatures, 2. insist that men are more influential or more heavily cited when this is contradicted by objective citation counts, and 3. attribute women’s work to hallucinated male scholars.

When I meet people in the real world, they have 0% - and I mean zero - knowledge of the disaster unfolding in British HE. Even if their kids are actually at uni. They look at me as if I've gone mad. This is why. 👇

Why is the universities crisis being ignored? Essential piece by @gsoh31.bsky.social for Arguably on the “grim dribbling away of one of Britain's great triumphs and economic advantages” – and why so few politicians seem to care. www.arguably.uk/p/the-quiet-...

We have written to the First Minister and deputy first minister. We have written and met with the SFC. We have asked local and regional MSPs to lobby on our behalf. We have informed SFC and UEG they have breached the conditions of funding. There has been no effective action to stop job cuts.

Update: Young people & families today received shocking & transphobic letters from NHS. These letters tell people that endocrine care (blockers / HRT) is being fully withdrawn in 7 weeks time (July 31st). Forced medical detransition. This country is a danger to trans children & young people.

Trans adolescents accessing the only NHS route to healthcare (WellBN) have been through a stressful year long transphobic investigation. For a year they have sat under the threat of forced medical detransition. With significant negative impacts. 1/2
