Always strive to be kind, but while striving to be kind, don't forget you're allowed to get angry too
Someone on #PoliticsLive said 'genocide' Cue the host:
If Israel wanted to avoid the explicit comparisons to Jim Crow or to apartheid South Africa then Israel should have chosen to not impose a racial regime onto Palestinians for the last 75 years which clearly violates international legal standards against racial discrimination.
Worth noting that apartheid actually has a legal definition under the 1973 Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid and the 2002 Rome Statute. Israel plainly violates the definition in both cases— the ICJ implicitly agreed in its 2024 ruling on the occupation.
"This is deeply irresponsible from a Labour government" Zack Polanski speaks to The National about Labour's approval of new gas drilling.
Might it be quicker if we gave a short list of places where it is appropriate to protest and make statements? Because it appears to be quite literally nowhere.
If you know that specific, identifiable people are secretly plotting to murder you as soon as the opportunity arises, then I’d say there is no “may” about it. He 100% certainly means “maximum pre-emptive violence now”.
Douglas Murray writes a commentary in the Spectator offering a modern mashup of Powellite/Elon Musketeer themes of choosing whether to be a spectator at their own funeral pyre - or to fight back. Closely echoes Elon Musk's "fight back or die" narrative (that violence may become necessary+legitimate)
This is 100% senile emperor during imperial decline stuff. Down to the letter.
Inflation eating up worker pay. Household debt and student loan defaults at a record high. Credit card debt at a near record high. 8 million people have lost healthcare the past year. 5 million people have lost food stamps — including 2 million children. And this is what he's thinking about?
People said Starmer was an incompetent politician but he speed-ran the Macron trajectory from finger-jabbing, hectoring Sensible ego-monster to reviled idiot leaving his country as an even nastier, far more extreme reactionary disaster-zone in, what, two years? Chapeau, Monsieur Keir
There is something deeply wrong with allowing a sociopath from South Africa to kill thousands of kids in Africa and Ukraine just because he has a lot of money.
Every safety regulation or law should have a picture of the disaster that sired it next to it lest people forget
It's useful to look at rail history in the UK, as just about every important safety development was introduced as the direct result of a disaster. In many cases, technology and practices already existed that could have prevented the loss of life but were ignored by the rail companies on cost grounds
I love a good hotel room specifically for its illusion that it’s No One’s Space; liminal, impersonal, it has been created just for me and will disintegrate the moment I leave. It lets me believe everything is brand new, the sheets were woven just for me, no one has ever jizzed on the curtains, etc
We've been consistent on no new oil and gas from day one. Unlike Labour.
Any minute now, the Labour government will be proscribing Turning Point UK, right? Right?
I saw a screenshot of this and had to go and check if it was real. How can you be the BBC’s cyber correspondent and not have heard of PHP before yesterday? *And* now be talking confidently about it on the news. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/ck...
And now the BBC News site looks like a BNP pamphlet
#Onthisday 2009. Nick Griffin, the leader of the British National Party (BNP), appeared as a panellist on Question Time The BBC's decision to invite Griffin was immensely controversial. His appearance drew a record audience of eight million viewers Full story: www.politics.co.uk/history/bnp-...
These NYCHA residents have fought to reopen their senior center for 25 years. Today, we're delivering — along with a renovated community center, child care center and modernized apartments for 5,000 residents.
"the elite aren't the people with money, status, power or influence. They are people who I disagree with."
She got a private sit down with the first Labour prime minister since 2010. She funds groups who have changed literal laws. She’s got a 2 part documentary coming. She has so much money she set up a foundation to defend people from lawsuits. What is not elite about that you fucking morons.
Future history will look at Rowling completely derailing progress for women in the way it should: her vanity project and fragile ego focused anger and resources on being cruel to trans people and the cost was the lives of trans folk, and women, who died because the attention was on a moral panic.
And trans people and cis women are dying and suffering whilst her vanity project plays out, and at any FUCKING point you could realise this but you won’t cos OO SHE WRIT THE FUNNY WIZZARD BOY BOOKS, GRUMBLEDOR AND IM A SPOOGERIN! You BORING LOSERS.
And I’m so over the “she was abused” stuff. So was I! I got raped by a guy repeatedly and my anger is aimed squarely at cis men and a society that teaches men disgusting shit and fails to teach them basic empathy.
Because you fucking wankers have won- you’ve demonised trans people, you’ve taken their rights apart, and women are still facing exactly the same horrors they always were.
She’s the spearhead of a campaign against trans people and every single one of you that’s fallen for paralleling that with feminism is a simpleton. Trans rights are not some weight against women’s rights. How do I know?

The jetstream (red) cutting across Storm Austen this evening Cold, unstable air on the jet's northern side digging in from the NW, helping to create the vigorous hook cloud circulating around the storm centre, along with the strongest wind gusts which arrive in the coming hrs
Double trouble Storm Austen and Boelo gathering out west A third low pressure system then perhaps affecting the UK early next week
This is genuinely embarrassing for the BBC and for anyone with "cyber correspondent" as a job title. Everyone involved with this should be cringing inside out.
Maybe the BBC should get someone who actually knows what he is talking about then.
Obviously it’s necessary to get the public riled up to pull the right lever here and there, but the press in general are talking to *themselves and each other*, clearly laying out the boundaries and demonstrating what the penalties for crossing them are.
