AI is killing part of the science. Reviewing used to be enjoyable and a way to learn. Now I spend too much time reviewing AI generated papers. I wonder if the authors even understand what they’ve written. It even sounds hilarious that if AI review AI written papers. #chatgpt #peerreview #research

Interior Dynamics as Drivers of Planetary Evolution and Habitability: From Rocky Planets to Ocean Worlds
The internal structure and dynamics of planetary bodies fundamentally control their thermal evolution, surface environments, and long-term habitability. Processes operating within planetary interiors ...

Back to Boston after 8 years! Oh my…it’s pretty warm 😂
What powered the Moon's late-stage volcanism? 🌙🌋 Our experiments & modeling published in EPSL with Rajdeep Dasgupta show garnet in the young lunar mantle, pointing to deep fertile material by mantle overturn or prolonged mantle convection. @riceeeps.bsky.social doi.org/10.1016/j.ep...
Thrilled to share that my first paper was published today 🎉 We performed low pressure experiments on 9 alkaline compositions, at a wide range of redox conditions, and used this data to calibrate new equations for estimating equilibrium Kd(Fe-Mg) for Ol-melt & Cpx-melt in alkaline systems
Phase equilibria and liquid lines of descent in alkali basalts at one atmosphere and the role of oxygen fugacity - Contributions to Mineralogy and Petrology
This study presents new experimental data on the effect of oxygen fugacity (fO2) and bulk composition on phase equilibria and liquid lines of descent in alkali basalts. Crystallisation experiments wer...

We have a new paper. This one is about generating highly differentiated, low F melts through a series of interconnected magma chambers, each undergoing only moderate crystallization (moderate F), with the effects compounding after each successive staging. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Oxygen fugacity is so confusing in geology but is quite appealing in atmosphere chemistry, here the definition of oxygen fugacity as the partial pressure of oxygen makes more sense and is measurable with a sensor that responds to the voltage. #experimentalpetrology
Recalibrating our 10-yr old gas mixing furnace, here is a small bizarre set up I made but perfect return voltage from TC to we can convert to a temperature (room temperature right now). #experimentalpetrology
The Moon fully eclipsing the Sun, captured by Artemis II. ....shot on Nikon Z9!!!!
Whoa 🤯 The Moon, in full eclipse, with the #Artemis II Orion spacecraft. Part of the Moon and spacecraft are lit by Earthshine, and both Saturn and Mars are visible to the lower right. Incredible. Details: images.nasa.gov/details/art0...
New work challenges the idea of a “wet” Moon🌙💧 Our GCA study, with Raj and @cintylee.bsky.social, shows water-rich lunar melt inclusions form via magmatic recharge, instead of requiring a wet mantle! The Moon may still be strongly volatile-depleted. @riceeeps.bsky.social doi.org/10.1016/j.gc...
New shot of the Moon taken only a few hours ago by the Artemis II crew! More of the lunar far side coming into view :-D flic.kr/p/2s676GN
#Mercury is unusually S-rich. Could #sulfur play a role similar to #volatiles on Earth in shaping melt generation and differentiation? Here, Raj and I combine spectros and expts to show how S dissolves in Mercurian melts affects Mercury’s interior evolution. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
The effects of sulfur on near-liquidus phase relations of highly reduced basaltic melts with implications for magmatism in Mercury
Data returned from NASA’s MESSENGER mission reveal that Mercury’s surface is highly enriched in sulfur (S) and depleted in iron (Fe), consistent with …

What happened if a planet has weight-percent-level S in the mantle melts and how such large amounts of S affect melt generation in reduced planet like Mercury? Stop by my poster tomorrow morning at V21B-0069 and let’s chat! #AGU2025
Next Monday @riceuniversity.bsky.social we have a panel discussion on the geopolitics of critical minerals for the energy transition. Geology does not distribute natural resources fairly. This leads to a complex web of trade and geopolitical tensions. events.rice.edu/event/415347...
