I wonder if local politicians still throw candy from convertibles at the Mason, Michigan 4th of July parade. How many future Political Scientists have had hard candy chucked their way by a future US Senator (who was a state representative at the time)?

I just got a desk reject for “fit”. That would be fine except the article sat with the editor for six months! That’s ridiculous for a fit rejection where it never went out to review. And when I asked earlier why it was taking so long, I was told it was about a difficulty in finding reviewers.

You can/should read Emily Wilson's latest take on the Odyssey, but I'm logging on to convey my hairdresser's reaction. She was AGHAST that Nolan, with his million $ budget, gave Matt Damon ONLY 6 hair extensions. As a result, his hair did not blow around properly, & that ruined the film for her.

El Sayed not winning Wayne County isn’t great for the theory he’d juice Democratic base turnout. He seems to have done best in whiter, educate, affluent areas outside of Oakland, which has s Stevens’ base (and he came close there). Anyway, on to the general. Beat Rogers.

Yep. Earlier this year I was interviewed by Sharyn Alfonsi of 60 Minutes about my Epstein investigation. Subsequently, CBS pulled the segment and fired the reporter. The MAGA buyout of media is aiding the Trump administration’s Epstein cover up.

Banks permitted millions in suspicious transactions tied to Epstein—and former 60 Minutes correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi had the story months ago. But the report would never air. trib.al/ZShZlIS

The latest poll for Saxony-Anhalt has the far-right at 41%. If some of the smaller parties (SPD, Greens, BSW) don't clear the threshold to enter parliament, the far-right may gain an absolute majority in September.

Well, tomorrow I will donate to the winner of the Democratic Senate primary in Michigan no matter who wins. I know my dad is also planning to donate to the Dems once the primary is past. I’ll probably hit up the DCCC and maybe the DLC as well, though maybe not all in one paycheck.

Watergate was a harmless prank, in terms of the scale of illegality & constitutional violations, compared to this. Again, this is the most basic "do we live under a functioning constitutional order?" type of stuff. The answer, sadly, is no, because this hasn't immediately ended his presidency.

NEW YORK AG SAYS TRUMP'S NEW TARIFFS ARE 'IMPERMISSIBLY BROAD' AND BYPASS THE COUNTRY-SPECIFIC INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED BY LAW, ADDING THAT THE LATEST TARIFFS MERELY REPLACE DUTIES SHOT DOWN BY THE SUPREME COURT

Since the Monroe Doctrine is in the news, I highly recommend Samuel Flagg Bemis’ biography of John Quincy Adams, the main author of the MD, who also sought more cooperation with South America. Also, you get a lot of coverage of his efforts against the gag rule and slavery post-presidency.

At least Yankee fans acknowledge that money gives them an advantage and are upset their management has done so little with it. Detroit Red Wings fans were fully aware of the advantage money gave them in the pre-salary cap era. (Detroit is a much relatively larger hockey market than baseball market.

Johnson: If we lose the midterms, these Democrats will turn every committee of Congress into an investigative body, and they'll go after the president's family, the cabinet, his donors, friends, half of you in this room will be targeted. I run the protection program. We’ll take care of you.
