I’ve been struggling to articulate what bugs me about a lot of Nolan’s work and I think this pretty succinctly states it. He lacks a playfulness (IMO) that a major director should have (again IMO)
ApocalypticaNow@apocalypticanow.bsky.social · 2mo agoHer comments are apt and fair. Nolan's Odyssey (and his overall work) just doesn't have a sense of humor or playfulness. His version of Odysseus is not a wily rapscallion but a tortured hero. Those are not attacks but observations.

I don’t get the appeal of this Anthony Bourdain movie. It seems incredibly cringe. I have my issues with Bourdain and his acceleration of “chef bro” culture but there is no way he would think this was cool.
