I gave blood today and got the usual post-donation paperwork and spiel about drinking lots of water, eating a bit more for a couple of days and, of course, if I get cold-like symptoms I should call... Except the air is so crunchy right now, my sinuses are draining like crazy. Whee!!!

I have been looking for work for over a decade and my attitude towards interviews has evolved like the character of Red in Shawshank Redemption. I’ve gone from “yes, absolutely I would LOVE to count widgets” to “no yeah, it’d be sooo cool to work here.”

Guys will listen to male influencer bullshit about needing to have a six pack and manipulate everyone and meanwhile women will go “you know who is the sexiest fucking guy I’ve ever seen?” and post this

Nor do we want to be on Truth Social. I would hate to find a welcome home there. I would hate to be somebody who would be palatable to such a place. We don't go on Truth, because nobody needs bullies. They *do* try to come on Bluesky, because bullies need the rest of us.

The burden is always on us lefties to welcome them, debate them, compromise with them, find middle ground, and generally make them comfortable. It’s totally one directional. No one is calling for Truth Social to make any room for us.

Like many things, I think men have infinite support structures that allow them to avoid any kind of introspection and self-reflection. Hitting a bump and questioning yourself are normal parts of the human experience but if you're continually rewarded by failure, what incentive is there to improve?

I like this notetaking example. it is a good case of how gender works. Notetaking has never been about producing a transcript. It is a bureaucratic skill in the 20th c. organixarion because it is SENSEMAKING. Those women socialized to take notes? They have been doing men’s metacognition for them

Notetaking in meetings is tiny case in point - used to be some predictable social assumptions who would do it; now anyone can offer to do ”notetaking” by turning on the AI listener. Further interesting scenario is human recollection / notes (taken by habit by a person) conflict with AI summary

I feel like Joyce Carol Oates was brought to the Odyssey movie (NOT the original work) to provide a cat fight to prove that the man was more right than the woman who criticized his work. That academic who’s just desperate for fame (huh?) and couldn’t write a movie (what?) and is just shameless! 🤮

I don't want a "Smart Fridge" that orders milk for me. I want a fridge that lasts 25 years and doesn't have a privacy policy that allows it to share my late-night snacking habits with my health insurance provider.

Christopher Nolan refused to respect the original text and I'm still furious about it. I mean the male lead was fine and the architectural details were a mess. But an Australian as Sandy? Does Christopher Nolan REALLY get Grease? In this essay, I will...

“Fauci kept talking about how he was in the newspaper in his diary. What a narcissist!” Last month I had a video on Instagram go viral, thousands of likes. I kept my girlfriend updated for about a week because it was so weird before it became noise. If I was on the cover of the NYTimes? 🤯

Reminder that the Golden Age of Comics began in 1938 when a couple of Jews started making stories about fighting evil. So many of the people in power now seen so much like cartoon villains bc those archetypes were literally created after some of the most horrific human beings of our known history.

The first episode of Strange New Worlds is set 65 million years ago and is staggeringly ahistorical in its presentation of prehistoric tableaux AND I FUCKING LOVED IT!!!!! I'm a GenX dino nerd. I appreciate the new science and discoveries and all the wonder that's been revealed.
