We cannot fix hospital ERs without fixing the entire system around them. This is apparently valuable insight. Send me my cheque, please.

There is scientific interest in how this unusual variant evolved, perhaps evolution within a single host over time. That's why I posted and brought to the attention of PHO. It is expected that current mRNA boosters should remain effective against PJ.2. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Epidemiology and virological characteristics of the emerging SARS-CoV-2 variant PJ.2.1

SARS-CoV-2 continues to circulate globally at high levels and to evolve into new variants. Recently, a new saltation variant harbouring a highly mutated spike protein, PJ.2.1, emerged in North America. Here, we provide a brief epidemiological and virological characterization of PJ.2.1 and cocirculating variants. We report that PJ.2.1 is spreading in the USA, Canada, and Spain and mainly infects individuals aged 60 years and older, as do most other variants, with the exception of BA.3.2, which preferentially infects individuals aged 0-9 years. PJ.2.1 was less susceptible to inhibition by an antibody against ACE2 than were the other variants, indicating increased ACE2 binding. In contrast, PJ.2.1 did not show augmented evasion of antibodies from vaccinees who had received the LP.8.1-adapted vaccine compared with most other variants analysed. These results suggest that augmented ACE2 affinity rather than increased antibody evasion might drive the current, rapid spread of PJ.2.1. ### Competing Interest Statement IN, SP, and MH conducted contract research (testing of vaccine serums for neutralising activity against SARS-CoV-2) for Valneva, which is unrelated to this work. Albertans, listen to Kenney and other Canadian leaders. Don’t stay home or vote YES just to send Ottawa a message. Learn from Brexit: the UK is still paying the price for leaving the EU. Don’t gamble Alberta’s future on a protest vote. Get out & vote NO to separation. Vote for a united 🇨🇦.

Jason Kenney: "I would just say to those who are on the fence about voting, the bigger the vote to stay in Canada, the less likely the separatists are going to be able to drag us through this again and again."

Russian bot traffic on the Internet appears to have PLUMMETED following reports of a Ukrainian strike on a Yandex data center. Republicans now panicking that Ukraine’s strikes are disrupting bot operations ahead of the U.S. midterms? The potential political implications are enormous. ~ Meidas Touch

Canadian MP McPherson has accused Alberta Premier Smith of creating a path toward separation through the upcoming referendum. McPherson argued that separatist voices have always existed in Alberta. The key question now is how Albertans want their province’s future to unfold. Vote NO to the nine

Not to mention that we could’ve gotten plenty of diesel fuel-and cheaper, too-without helping Putin kill innocent Ukrainians. But now, the stain of their blood will forever remain on the hands of Trump and his soulless, hypocritical acolytes in the Republican party May they rot in hell

Airports are privately run already but the key difference is that the airport authorities in place now are community-based, non-share capital corporations responsible for managing, operating, maintaining, and - most importantly - investing revenues back into airports. Private equity won't do that.

And now the best part: Bot traffic from the #Yandex network has plunged to near zero following the strike on its Vladimir data center. Bot traffic includes automated requests from search crawlers, scrapers and other online services. Twitter must be a ghost town by now.

All three Yandex AI supercomputers are reportedly offline: Galushkin in Vladimir, Chervonenkis and Lyapunov in Sasovo, whose data center shut down after the Oct 8 strike. Yandex Cloud outages also threaten thousands of Russian firms relying on it for websites, databases and payments 👏
