I have one answer.

As an editor, author, and HWA chapter secretary, I condemn the decision to publish this piece in the strongest terms. As someone personally offended by this piece's line of thinking, to say nothing of its artlessness, I have to question whatever is going on with that newsletter. This is ... 4/?

And it really sucks as someone who loves technology, but I've had to stop myself engaging with generative a.i. in any way other than research. Does it seem cool? Yep. Is it actually cool? Nope. Could it be cool? Maybe. But the powers-that-be would much rather make it The Torment Nexus than good.

I want to highlight this part of her rant because it's incredibly dismissive of Indigenous communities' centuries-long fight against environmental racism. While nothing in her article (if I can call it that) demonstrates mature, acceptable behavior, this part is the most egregious.

Having ranted about school curriculum books, I’ve just seen my son’s summer reading list, and all I can say is “I was right”. A more depressing collection would be tricky to assemble. Are we actively trying to convey to kids the idea that reading is dismal and arduous?
