A Real Octopus

He/him, trans // All Cephalopods Are Beautiful

If he'd misgendered him/said "her" I think a lot of people would correctly be flipping the fuck out at the threat of extreme violence but since he's trans we're just lucky someone acknowledges our existence at all, we can't complain that they're fantasizing about hurting us

andrew rich@androgynyfiend.bsky.social · 14h ago

people quote tweeting this shit being like well he gendered him correctly it's just men being men what's wrong with that. can y'all use your fucking brains

this is probably the worst language i've seen a democrat use. saying "transgender ideology" is straight out of the right wing playbook. this is looking more and more like Labour, so I don't want to hear any more shit about how even the transphobic democrats broadly support our rights.

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com · 24h ago

Holy shit. Marcy Kaptur becomes the latest Dem to release an anti-trans ad, and its worse than all the rest combined. "I voted WITH Republicans to keep transgender ideology out of schools, and let me be clear, boys should NOT play in girls sports." This is getting out of control.

Apparently it's okay to say anything you want to trans people on this platform but "toxic" to respond in any way, and I'm wondering if once again there's going to be a trans exodus and everyone will have to find another platform and many of us will lose track of each other. I'm tired.

It will take a generation or more to undo what Labour have done. I turn 51 in a few weeks and I don't think I will see it reversed properly in my life time. Hope I'm wrong but I fully expect to die with fewer rights than every cis person I know.

So utterly depressing and soul destroying to be the target of unrelenting institutional hate while being told it's not even happening.

One thing that bothers me about the undeserved reputation trans people have for being mean and scary and impossible to satisfy is that when I see a politician do something positive for trans people I also see a lot of trans people expressing gratitude. We give people credit when they earn it!

This is the second media outlet (the first was the AP) I've seen use the phrase "unflinching support" today and it seems weird to me they'd both use that language? Either way fuck this, the Democratic party has never provided trans people "unflinching support"

PBS News@pbsnews.org · 4d ago

An increasing number of Democratic officials in red and blue states are distancing themselves from their party's unflinching support for the transgender community's policy priorities, such as allowing athletes to compete on teams that match their gender identity. https://to.pbs.org/4xO5rWu

I appreciate this but would take it a step further -- if you see a trans/nonbinary person upset about certain Democrats being shit to them you can respond by saying "that sucks I'm sorry" and Venmoing them $200 (This is a joke, I appreciate the point the poster's making, ha ha just kidding unless)

Ash, apparently@arreffbee.bsky.social · 4d ago

Cisgender people, today is a great day to mind your own fucking business and stop trying to police trans/nonbinary folks' emotions If you see a trans/nonbinary person upset about certain Democrats being shit to them? SAY LESS

I do not understand the folks furious at trans people for responding in anguish when the party that they've been told would protect them treats their existence as negotiable. I do not understand thinking trans folks have political power and responsibility where candidates have none.

I think it's easy to miss how exhausting this is, and expecting trans people already under stress to behave graciously at all times in the face of brutal attacks verbal, emotional, legislative, and physical is holding us as a group to a ridiculously unfair standard

Casey Explosion@caseyexplosion.bsky.social · 5d ago

I'm so tired of the expectation that all trans people must be perfect advocates and ambassadors at all times, when most of us are not equipped for that whatsoever, and if any one of us slips of falters or says something in anger, it's on all of our heads as if we're collectively responsible.

I think the people who keep pointing out that Obama opposed gay marriage aren't really making a direct correlation with what is happening with trans rights today. The debate is over TAKING AWAY existing rights. So it would be more like Obama supporting recriminalizing gay sex.

can those of you mad because you think trans whining on microblogs will depress support for dem politicians please imagine for one second how dem politicians spouting transphobia on enormous mainstream platforms depresses support for trans people

"When Obama said he supported civil unions in the run-up to the 2008 and 2012 elections, he was offering gay people a slower pace of progress. When Democrats today triangulate on transgender rights, they are offering us a slower pace of decline." this hit me in the fucking gut

For those following today's discourse involving a 98k follower account screenshotting someone trans to say they're the real problem it will be exciting to see if the big account gets banned based on the new dogpiling rules or whether that will just happen to trans people responding. Let's watch!

Jesus Christ the way some liberals are speaking to and about trans people today, the vitriol and bile spewed at us, might push me off this fucking website. Disgusting "enjoy the camps" posts, people telling us we have to vote for our own oppression to preserve their comfort, the list goes on.

I really hate how we basically can't have intra-community conversations because any cis people listening will latch on to what they want to hear and use it against us. Cis people should keep the constant bad-faith readings of trans people in mind before accusing us of lacking nuance.

Last thought on this: cis people don’t get to comment on intra-group dynamics. Even steel-manning Will’s post, he is so incapable of handling that discussion that he ends up replicating right wing rhetoric without even realizing it.

I'm so tired of liberal transphobia. I'm tired of liberals telling us to vote for people who hate us and are making life more dangerous for us because they believe those politicians will protect them in a way they won't protect us and, I guess, as a vulnerable minority group we owe them those votes.
