Today is Michaelmas, a quarter day in the Irish calendar, and traditionally when rents were paid & contracts signed. It's also the last day to eat blackberries - after today, they belong to the Devil and will make you sick!

Detail of a page showing text in Spanish and a woodcut of blackberries. From Dioscorides' Materia Medica, 1555

The context for We Only Want the Earth is ongoing, unpredictable social change. The perceived legitimacy of international institutions and international law is collapsing.

There are three polaroid photos on a white background. The polaroid photos are of a. a volcanic site in the north of ireland. There is a hill or small mountain in the background and green fields in front. b a text image that reads ' it might be a mirage, it might be a mirage, it might be a mirage, it might be a mirage on 4 seperate lines c. a close up photograph of a berry bush growing wild on a fench.

Born to be alive. acts as a mechanism for an ongoing iterative conversation between A4 Sounds, artists, and audiences about the goals and strategies of social change: what kind of society do we want and how should we get there?

It took 8 years for McEntee's F/FG government to pass a watered down version of the Occupied Territories Bill. They could have supported boycott of the Ireland-Israel football match, a potentially huge moment in the global cultural boycott campaign. Such hollow words. www.rte.ie/news/ireland...

'We are failing' - McEntee questions EU's Israel response

The Minister for Foreign Affairs has said the EU's credibility "is gone" regarding its response to the actions of the Israeli government in the occupied Palestinian territories.

It's so fucking depressing and humiliating to beg and beg and beg for our country to do the right thing JUST ONCE, despite it clearly being something the vast majority of Irish people support. But no - the small people clinging to the levers of power will go their own way, to our eternal shame.

These are the people that the FAI and the Irish government, players and coaching staff are bending the knee for - bitter, entitled genocide-deniers protected by bigger nations, pissing in the faces of those who support the right of the Palestinian people to exist. For shame.

Tweet from the Israeli football association about Ireland head coach Heimir Halgrimsson that says:
We have contributed to the world and humanity in countless fields, earning an impressive number of Nobel Prizes along the way. Unfortunately, we have not yet found a cure for stupidity, ignorance and hypocrisy displayed by Ireland’s national team coach. We’re not playing with ignorance, hypocrisy and stupidity, We’re playing against the coach who embodies them.
