Who the fuck is letting off fireworks in broad daylight on a random Wednesday evening?

Passionate about the power of creativity and connection. Teaching sewing in Belfast. Posts about sewing, cats, dogs and random ramblings. Was @abbyjss at the other place.
Hunting anyone with kids (or they don't have to be kids!) collecting the World Cup Panini stickers as my teens are desperate to swap but can't find any friends mad enough to shell out. Anyone?
There is something really interesting to roll in just behind the dog. There is also a 1m drop. You'd think she'd learn a lesson the first time she rolled in it and fell off. She did not.
You can/should read Emily Wilson's latest take on the Odyssey, but I'm logging on to convey my hairdresser's reaction. She was AGHAST that Nolan, with his million $ budget, gave Matt Damon ONLY 6 hair extensions. As a result, his hair did not blow around properly, & that ruined the film for her.
My mum has mellowed a little as she’s aged but she’s still prim and proper. When I was a teen we didn’t get along & after an argument I rang the vet & changed our cat’s name to Ploppy. When she was there they called out “Mrs Blackwell & Ploppy please”, she was horrified, I made myself scarce 🤣
Just did the Beano Trail at Hillsborough castle. This sort of thing hits differently when you have had a career in charities where you debate if you can afford new felt tips for public events.
Nor do we want to be on Truth Social. I would hate to find a welcome home there. I would hate to be somebody who would be palatable to such a place. We don't go on Truth, because nobody needs bullies. They *do* try to come on Bluesky, because bullies need the rest of us.
The burden is always on us lefties to welcome them, debate them, compromise with them, find middle ground, and generally make them comfortable. It’s totally one directional. No one is calling for Truth Social to make any room for us.
Life lessons for today: would you rather be remembered like Jimmy Cricket, or Rod Liddle? It's not hard to answer is it?
I know a lot of people who knew Jimmy Cricket, and they all say he was as lovely as you'd imagine and hope.
at the fleadh in the common market (its got seats!) and the tv in the background is giving “earth civilians havent fully paid attention to the fact that an alien invasion has begun. “
Anyone know a reliable builder in the Sefton Park area. Have been very badly let down. Job is to finish off kitchen and refurbish bathroom. Cat and I are currently living in a building site. 👷♂️
Hey Indy, did you hear about the Australian cow? She’s from the land down udder!
Just visited a friend with cancer. Can I get some emergency cute pet photos?
On one hand I feel like if I don't go to the Fleadh I'll feel like I'm missing out. On the other hand I have zero energy and my stupid anxiety will make the crowds a nightmare.
@louiestowell.bsky.social fyi - I got your email but the reply bounced back.
Just found out that Liberty's advent calendar design is done by competition. There is a massive and time consuming brief with zero reward for people who take time out to do it. The winner receives £15,000 prize money. For a calendar that retails at about £300. Is it me or is that a bit crap?
Things I've learnt today... Gulliver's Travels was political satire, not actually a children's book. The publisher changed a load of words because he was worried about being put to death for treason.
I mean, it wouldn't have taken nine years to diagnose if doctors had taken us seriously the first time we went to them with period problems. Seeing things improve so much for the next generation makes me downright tearful with relief.
Endometriosis takes nine years to diagnose. That’s about to change. NICE has approved two tests: a saliva test reading microRNA markers, and a gut-sensor test returning results in 45 minutes, sparing women the keyhole surgery currently needed. buff.ly/QX3jHk8 #ShareGoodNewsToo
Can someone soothe my conflicting feelings about National Trust properties?
@gregjenner.bsky.social is it really annoying when someone waves a person under your nose as a potential You're Dead to Me subject?
NEW: Claire Mitchell: People call us useful idiots, Sinn Féin puppets, self-hating Prods. We prefer ‘happy Lundys’ None of us think that Northern Ireland is working or can be made to work. 100+ years is a long enough experiment www.irishnews.com/opinion/clai...
Just listened to @gregjenner.bsky.social's Your Dead to Me episode on LGBTQ life in Weimar Germany in the 1920's. It's yet another reminder that we can't take rights or even tolerance for granted.
Universal response to this has been 🤢 Maybe someone should tell them that their massive naked man is off putting. Not me though. I don't do awkward conversations.
The hill I'll die on today is advertising your cheesecake shop with a larger than life cartoon of you naked apart from an apron plastered on your shop front is weird.
My latest cartoon for @newscientist.com. Inspired by recent news about the SpudCell. NS subscribers can read about it here: www.newscientist.com/article/2532...

Going through some of the worst insomnia I've ever had. Ended up at the GP as I was really not functioning. GP asked if there was anything in particular causing me anxiety. Maybe I should stop staying up to date with what's happening in the world. 😬
The Boy has just declared that the Conservatives are committing to match Counts Binface's croissant pledge. According to Private Eye. Now. Before I sit him down and explain satire... Just to check... The Conservatives haven't actually copied that pledge, have they?
My husband's cousin was over this weekend. I love her visits, we do so much nattering and laughing. Watching her hop and skip over a zebra crossing while profusely thanking the drivers for stopping I, not for the first time, wondered if maybe we should check our DNA. 😬😆
