“The report hits on two of the Trump administration’s goals: the vilification of Cuba ahead of potential military action against the country, as well as the creation of a myth of an organized and violent left that is prepared to destroy the U.S.”

Anyone have access to the Antigua Free Press newspaper for around 1826-28 or so? I have a reference to the title of an article, but no specific date (other than that it must be before Dec 1828).

PASTOR LORAN LIVINGSTON (@CentralChurchNC): “There has never been a Christian nation, and never will be. You don’t live in one now. A Christian nation wouldn’t have killed and displaced 20 million Native Americans, or thought owning slaves was pleasing to God.”

Monthly reminder: Many people have a book in them, but it takes a special kind of freak to leave the Land of Laziness, cross the Plains of Procrastination and Insecurity Mountain, find the Blade of No One Made You Do This, and use it to cut your chest open and yank that book out.

As an American history professor, I regularly read new books, articles, and dissertations, and also evaluate unpublished manuscripts for journals and book publishers. I would not categorize the recent and emerging historiography in the binary way that Ezra Klein does.

There has been a severing of American history into two visions: one that can only see glory and one that can only see suffering and sin.

In a sane world (an alt reality) today's dissents would sufficient to warrant Thomas, Gorsuch and Alito's impeachment and removal from office. If you defy the plain words, meaning, intent, history, precedent of a black letter constitutional injunction u are abusing your power and should be removed.

I’m mad about today. I’m mad that justices can’t do the bare minimum to uphold the Constitution. I’m mad that the law and our history, which I have dedicated so much of my life to, is an inconvenience than an inheritance to many. I’m mad that the academy, which I love, rewards and enables it.

A year a half a ago, this professor made a plainly false statement that “an entire literature” existed— it didn’t—and then got multiple justices to buy into the historical fiction he backfilled, covering 800 years in a few weeks. A bastardized history, not in the search for truth, but for power.
