At least two dozen NYPD cops were given flock logins, Made 1700 searches, often giving the reason as “sdfsdf” or “234234” Didn’t seek or get approval to use the system or do any search. NYPD - they broke no rules! (Wort asking why you don’t have a rule against this) www.nytimes.com/2026/09/28/n...

N.Y.P.D. Officers Used Flock Safety to Track License Plates

Public records show police officers used Flock Safety’s technology to make more than 1,700 searches. The department did not have a contract with the company.

Glad to speak with @hellgatenyc.com about Commissioner Tisch continuing the tradition of promoting the most violent and lawless police officers to lead specialized stop-and-frisk teams, with predictable results: "This is a middle finger to everyone who expects the NYPD to be accountable to the law"

Why Does Jessica Tisch Keep Stocking the NYPD's Most Problematic Unit With Its Problem Cops?

An analysis of public records shows Tisch has assigned and promoted dozens of officers with troubling records to Community Response Teams.

Many people say because of unions, laws etc it's impossible to discipline bad cops. But many tools to discipline and punish cops exist, they are just deployed exclusively against whistleblowers and honest cops so corrupt cops can drum them off the force

NEW: I spent months trying to understand why a cop who spoke out against Flock faced five internal affairs investigations and was pushed out of his job—only to find himself at the center of an unlikely political fight uniting parts of the American right and left. www.wired.com/story/the-co...

stop. if you think the existence of a warrant is part of the conversation in any way, you cannot, by definition, argue that it makes any difference whether the guy they killed had a warrant or not. because right guy or wrong guy, an arrest warrant isn't a death sentence.

BREAKING: BIDDEFORD, Maine (AP) - Homeland Security secretary said man killed by ICE in Maine was not the target of warrant, Maine Sen. Angus King says.

This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days. ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.

You go to that fancy Italian restaurant — and who’s in the kitchen? Latinos. You go to that fancy French restaurant — who’s in the kitchen? Latinos. Latinos grow it, pick it, clean it, cook it, serve it, and do the dishes. We are the backbone. Don’t fuck with us, we’re busy.

Congratulations to Xavier Becerra. I am excited to offer him all the support I can as he sets out to become our state’s next governor, and I look forward to standing with him as California makes history by electing our first Latino governor in 150 years.

Just as Darnella Frazier filmed police murdering George Floyd in 2020, disturbing videos are engines of accountability. Bystander videos can debunk gov't lies & expose corrupt authoritarian practices, making everyday civilians a critical stopgap in fighting tyrannical regimes & muzzling of dissent.

Justice Alito's framing here will be familiar to anyone who has represented plaintiffs or criminal defendants. When the govt targets innocent people for intrusions that don't cause physical harm, the law makes it hard for them to sue. Then they're accused of not complaining.

Orin Kerr@orinkerr.bsky.social · 5mo ago

Alito: Other side says hundreds of millions of people are searched. But this isn't a physical place search, is it? Its asking the company to scan through data. They're not complaining. Feigin: Company doing the filtering makes a big difference here. Govt learned little.

/5 And that's just the first page. If I analyzed this for a client I'd tell them that this lawyer doesn't know defamation law and is in a panic. I'm not anybody's lawyer here but this letter's bluster and lack of professionalism scream "the dude did it" to me.

Before I became an American, I was Lebanese. Parts of my family live in Lebanon. Anyway, you don't need those bona fides to feel this way, but what is happening in Lebanon right now is a complete outrage. The people there, who mostly are just trying to carve out a living, don't deserve this.

“The Constitution isn’t a suicide pact,” like “you can’t yell fire in a crowded theater,” is a vapid content-free bromide that translates to “my policy preferences override the constitution.” It doesn‘t mean a Goddamned thing and never has.

Ari Cohn@aricohn.com · 6mo ago

Before you are tempted to use "the Constitution isn't a suicide pact" ever again to justify whatever restrictions or government power you are after, think about what that argument enables.
