My most likely to upset Bluesky's community opinion is that tons of people using Bluesky have no idea what the company is or was founded to do and yet yell at the devs to make it something else, but the Bluesky devs are correct to build what they want, and if that's not for you, that's okay.

I absolutely hate Facebook / Meta especially trying to sell anything on its marketplace. It stupidly blocked my listing for a console table as attempting to sell a "recalled" product because I stated the cherry red finish was no longer manufactured by ikea. It has an even stupider review process.

The MAGA mindset draws heavily on decades of evangelical culture. The worldview I grew up with was apocalyptic to its core. For them, the world is always about to end. Chaos and collapse aren't threats to that belief, they're confirmation of it. Enter Trump. /2

I want a version of LinkedIn that's more like IMDB... here's a project or a product and all the techies, designers, writers, managers, and various pixel pushers who made it happen.

After many stumbles, my weight loss has continued. I reached a milestone of where I was at in the beginning of the pandemic, ~163 lbs in March 2020. I celebrated with a delicious cheesy bagel sandwich (the Thunderbird) and an iced latte at the new Call Your Mother in Ballston.

Screenshot of a weight tracking app showing current weight at 163.7 lb, down 4.6 lb over the past 30 days. A trendline shows weight steadily dropping over a 30-day period. The stated plan is for a moderate pace of 1 lb per week.Picture of a deli bagel breakfast sandwich sliced in half and folded open to show egg sausage and lots of cheese dripping down the sides. An iced latte cup sits on the table. People sit in bright yellow chairs in the background.

I've been working on my weight since September, and I'm excited that I am down 10 lbs since I began, now at 178 lbs from my original "skinny with a belly" 188 lbs. I now weigh less than I did in spring 2023. It's a third of the way towards my goal of losing a total 30 lbs.

A line graph showing weight marked at 178, trending down from 1 month ago when the graph starts.

What these people don’t see is that by Beshear doing nothing he is actively doing something. He’s keeping the GOP controlled senate down one vote. If you’re screaming for him to storm the hospital then you’re actually screaming to give the GOP back their missing vote. Think first, “resist” later.

Imagine not showing up for work for 6 weeks with zero explanation and just releasing one “proof of life” photo that’s obviously doctored and thinking you can keep your job. Mitch McConnell is dead and they’re stealing his seat like they stole a Supreme Court seat. And Dems are just letting them?

The visual map provided is pretty damning but I have to remind myself all those rural counties are *very* low population and Republican, who typically distrust early voting. However, "the two localities with the most Sunday voters were Arlington (298) and Alexandria (128)." 👏👏

For the first time under a new law, Virginia’s election offices were open Sunday. In nearly half the state, no one showed up to vote.

Some localities have had Sunday voting before. Now it’s mandated. The turnout was spotty, with large numbers in two Northern Virginia localities, but most rural localities recorded no votes.

3/ doing the math, 90 credit hours would make it possible for a really dedicated full-time student to complete the bachelor's degree in JUST TWO YEARS (x4 18 CR semesters plus x2 summer semesters of 9 CR each). That would have been amazing.

“The fact that the trading firm would risk exposing the sordid details of such a trade in a lawsuit against a neutral party just shows how consequence-free insider trading has become. Maybe they’ll be one of the firms paying for faster access to Trump’s Truth Social posts.”

How can Freedom Fuel afford to sell gas for $3.47 a gallon? That’s the wrong question to ask.

Ok I've added this book to my reading list. From the summary I get the feeling I could draw clear lines between the mythologization of many rightwing historical fetishes: Jim Crow 1950's, Nazi Germany, the U.S. Confederacy, feudal Europe, and now also ancient Sparta.

Thinking about how Osprey, a publishing house almost entirely devoted to publishing military uniform/equipment fetish material disguised as dry but picture heavy non-fiction tomes, put out a book dismantling the right wing mythologization of Sparta with an absolute all-timer table of contents.
