KOSA sounds like it protects kids. But the actual bill text delivers paperwork protections for platforms, mandates new data collection on minors, and builds surveillance infrastructure and calls it child safety. Parents should stay in control. Not government mandates. You are the firewall.

Different stories but the same authoritarian & patriarchal habits of exploitation & impunity. Domination is protection, intentions & ambitions are a substitute for accountability, people who expose harm are punished & vilified, & consequences are imposed on less powerful people as costs of progress.

Lawmakers must include a duty of care in online safety legislation. Without it, Big Tech can continue avoiding responsibility for the harms they cause to kids. That's why we joined 60+ organizations urging the U.S. Senate to only consider bills with this standard. Kids deserve to be safe online.
As I'm researching public health risks/harms across Canadian populations from digital engagement, it's overwhelmingly clear how much Big Tech lobbying happens to keep the federal policy environment permissive for harms their products cause to Canadians' health & well-being.
Under Trump: -An ExxonMobil lawyer runs DOJ's Environment division -An Amazon executive runs OSHA -A crypto and prediction markets lawyer runs the CFTC -A private prison executive runs ICE The list goes on... The revolving door is spinning out of control.

The Pollution Being Churned Out by AI Data Centers Is So Severe That It's Almost Incomprehensible
The extent of the pollution being put out by thousands of data centers is shocking. Some developers are exploiting regulatory loopholes.

Today, I voted NO on the KIDS Act and remain dedicated to working across the aisle to negotiate legislation that will create meaningful change to protect kids — not half measures that allow Big Tech to harm our children.
A ban is a symbolic reset, writes Maeve Walsh of the Online Safety Act Network, but treating social media harms as a product safety failure—not just age-gating and hoping for the best—gets at the root, and it's already doable under the UK’s existing Online Safety Act.
The New UK Prime Minister Inherits a Social Media Ban. The Real Goal Is Safety by Design.
Embedding safety by design is the only way to ensure substantive reduction of harms, argues Online Safety Act Network director Maeve Walsh.

The red state, blue state divide is real. But it's driven by more than just politics
Recent research suggests there's more going on with "ideological sorting" than simply moving to places that match one's politics. It's often one of many deciding factors, such as taxes or safety.
