Putting a lot of the energy I have from being upset in how my grandfather's memorial got handled into more planning for our UK trip since we know how happy he was about it. Currently doing researching Orkney since it turns out my wife's family has two different areas in Scotland they came from!

Got a haircut today and wandered over to the nearby video game store for a nice walk. Got a good deal on some Lego games for the 3DS and stumbled upon these really cool Switch related magazines that were there for a series called Switch Player! I LOVE the art on them and may need to grab the rest...

Three Nintendo 3DS games and 5 issues of Switch Player video game magazine laying on a green table. The three 3DS games are The Lego Movie Videogame, Lego Marvel Super Heroes: Universe in Peril, and Lego Marvel Avengers. The magazines are the first 5 issues of Switch Player. Issue 1 has cover art of the Nintendo Switch system, Issue 2 has The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild cover, Issue 3 is a Mario Kart themed cover, Issue 4 has Street Fighter cover art, and Issue 5 has art for Arms on the front.

Buck Martinez is the best of us. I’ve seen what he means to people, but also how he treats people. It doesn’t matter if you’re a Hall of Famer or the new guy, he makes you feel like you belong in the room. I was that new guy once. This is so deserved. What a man. What a life.

Today went terribly. Barely heard from any family at all and essentially ended up spending most of my day sitting around waiting for them, only to hear from one cousin I've never met for about 5 minutes. Apparently some massive drama happened that was so bad lawyers will need to be involved. :(

Today is the big funeral day for my grandfather. It feels wrong sitting home alone while I know it's happening. I wish I could be there with my family. I would have traveled to go, but another country's government sadly made the choice for me by making it not legally possible. I just want to cry.

Having a whole bunch of complicated feelings. Grandpa's service is tomorrow morning, but I sadly can't attend be there with everyone else. The funeral is being held in another country that does not allow X gender passports and would not be safe for me. :( I feel sad, disconnected, and alone.

I’m normally not one to take photos of meals, but the dinner my wife made tonight looks super photogenic and part of me felt obligated to share it with the internet lol. Bow tie pasta in a lemon garlic butter with fresh basil and roasted pine nuts! It tasted as good as it looks!

I wanted to do a calming activity while listening to the Blue Jays game, so I decided to built this Pixel Art Charmander set! This one felt a lot easier than the Bulbasaur one I made earlier. Charlie was super excited to watch me build this kit! The Squirtle one will be my next project!

Went for a nice long walk to help clear my head and wandered around. Saw some nice flowers that had some bees that wanted to say hello! Also found out a Daiso JUST opened near me a few days ago, so I got a small haul there. Love the cute Doraemon pouch and will build some dinosaurs on my time off.

It’s hard to see from the photo, but there is a little bee on one of them in the centre! Two build a dinosaur friend fits from the Petit Block brand (one is tyrannosaurus and the other is tyrannosaurus baby) next to a blue Doraemon pouch. The pouch has a picture of Doraemon eating lots of dorayaki and has the text “I love dorayaki” in a darker blue.

Heard the doorbell ring and was surprised with this absolutely beautiful basket of white flowers! Turns out some of the kind folks I work with wanted to send these for sympathy support after hearing about grandpa. I will have to take good care of these!

It’s Trey Yesavage bobblehead night at Nat Bailey Stadium! Been so mentally out of it from losing my grandpa that I nearly forgot about tonight’s game. Here is hoping some baseball will help as a fun distraction. Excited to have the opportunity to see Jojo Parker play for the Canadians!

Having a tough time dealing with the awful news that you are gone. I always looked forward to the cards you would send me and being able to stay up to date on what is going on with each other despite a large distance and borders. Glad you got to know we can see Scotland for you! RIP Grandpa!

Just got the absolute devastating news that my grandfather passed away today. It feels so sudden. We only just learned more about our family and was so excited to tell him all about about our UK trip and visit the town in Scotland they came from. My brain keeps spacing out. I can't stop crying.

A lot of the current localization discussion lately reminds me of my disastrous time of trying to get a start in the industry years ago. I've always had a passion for it, but I sort of game up on that dream as a result of how things went. All the work I did ended up uncredited and was never paid.

You’d think that with increasing numbers of shows and manga, demand for dubs on multiple streaming services, and fans looking for better quality translation and loc, translators would be living well. Nope. The workload has increased, the deadlines have been shortened, and quality checks are gone.

LRT: there’s a reason everyone who works in Japanese media localization is rallying around Jan’s statement here. Anime, manga, and games are seemingly bigger than ever and none of the creatives involved in getting that media into English are making any money.

Last couple days at work have been super odd. Tech issues has been so bad that one computers is fully out of order as it will not stop printing out some sort of voodoo on its own. On the plus side, I keep discovering more places with amazing proper scones! I may have had scones many times. :P

Myles Straw’s baseball card collection belongs in a museum, one grail after another. This is a story I’ve looked forward to writing all year, about Straw’s “semi obsession” and what these pieces of cardboard mean to us: www.mlb.com/bluejays/new...

Card collecting both a 'hobby and semi-obsession' for Straw

TORONTO -- Myles Straw is not just a card collector; he is a connoisseur. To a fellow collector, the shelves of his locker are like wings of an art museum. He might pull a baseball card out of his poc...
