Al Ewing Writes Comics

@al-ewing.bsky.social

I write comics. He/him. No terfs, no swerfs.

I did very light outlines for Defenders of Light and Dark (and the basic plot is part of the larger QIB whole) but Tom Waltz had final say on teams and did all the page-by-page plotting and scripting. If you like what you read there, Tom should get 99% of the credit.

Maybe us less young folk could make a few sacrifices for the greater good, like the younger generation still having a livable planet when they're our age. Like not driving a tank to b&q, or being able to look at a solar farm without having a tantrum, or making that village fete poster ourselves

It’s important to understand “age verification” and “kick the kids off social media” laws as a gift to Big Tech. These policies allow surveillance capitalism to chug along full steam ahead and let Silicon Valley giants off the hook. Instead of regulating their biz model, we just put up age gates

The billionaires have a vision of the future, and in it, many of us are dead. Not because they all want to kill us (some of them want to kill some of us), but because we are simply surplus and expendable in their eyes.

I’ve said this before privately and now I’m saying it on the record Go check the status of your voter registration and set a recurring reminder to do it again this time in two weeks. Do not let this lapse.

You write your eulogy in life. If you want people to mourn, make your life something to celebrate. If you want people to celebrate, make your life something to mourn.

I did my dissertation on the Video Recordings Act (1984). This was key to the story as the distributors fought the charges and won, and I had to get signed permission to watch the University library's copy. I was gobsmacked that Sam Neill was in a 'Video Nasty' but that's how versatile he was.

Always present on the Thor playlist and the Guardians playlist before it. (Have a listen to “Call Me Thunder” if you want a good Thor track.) “Fresh from the fight… and larger than life!” was the tagline of the Hercules solo I never got to do. RIP Bonnie Tyler, who always brought it and then some.

RIP Bonnie Tyler, an absolute goddess. This isn't even the only comic I've written where Total Eclipse is central, as central as it was to all those years when we DJed, and became the ceremonial phonomantic ending, because where can you go from here? Apex pop culture.

Cover of Phonogram: The Immaterial Girl by Jamie Mckelvie, homaging thevideo to total eclipse of the heart.
