The Post Office told wrongly-accused postmasters that their compensation offers were secret, and couldn't be shown to anyone. That was false. The Solicitors Regulation Authority was about to prosecute the lawyers responsible. But now it's dropped the case, and won't say why.

Having considered the representations and other information received from the Firm we have decided to close the investigation. Our view is that the Firm exercised proper professional judgment when coming to a decision on the legal position as regards the explanation of the “without prejudice” label in the correspondence that was sent to sub-postmasters relating to the Horizon Shortfall Scheme. The SRA will close the matter with no further action.

So Irish Examiner journalist Alison O’Reilly hears a solicitor, Gavin Booth say that the suspect in the car bomb case ‘spent time in Saoradh.’ She, being kind, misheard him and reports it as time in Syria. The misreporting (still up, btw) goes around the world and media shrugs. Bizarre

Glib dismissal of people who just might have a bit more experience of the real world than they do, blanket condemnation of an entire political class because things are bad and they haven't fixed it.
