Since I blocked her, @grace2002.bsky.social has added me to no fewer than 9 lists. Some people really can't handle the refusal of interaction that a block enforces. It's a fascinating psychological phenomenon to observe.
And yet, some Americans will persist in being utterly bemused as to why they aren't universally adored by the other cultures they so seldom deign to notice.
No, the *real* question is "why is this your reply to a Brit posting about the Covid experience in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland?"
Dennis Callegari@4linesintime.bsky.social · 3d agoThere were/are 1.2 MILLION confirmed COVID deaths in the USA, so you're underestimating by a factor of 5. The real question is 'How many deaths could have been *avoided* by a competent government in 2020?'. That's probably a quarter of a million.
Once more, for the "well actually" crowd...

There are a number of things to take from this piece (which is extremely cogently argued, if depressing in its implications) but something that must now be a cast-iron rule for all defence procurements from the US, as evidenced by the Starlink issue, is the **necessity** of operational independence.

This image is doing the rounds, and I think it's worth saying that a good rule of thumb is "don't take history lessons from people who think the Israelis were bombing Palestinians with F/A-18s in 1948."
If one of these things goes up, pray it happens at sea. If it gets hit in a harbour, the harbour will vanish; the explosion will be not dissimilar in size to a tactical nuke.
