scanning in old strips for the new book and this is evergreen
Please be careful on the internet today, there's an extremely graphic video of Perez Hilton self-harming going around (and please please please don't seek it out--even people who've seen a lot of graphic imagery are saying it's horrific and traumatizing to watch. Please protect your peace!)
The underlying fantasy of consumer-facing "A.i." is slavery. "A.i." billionaires want to create pliant, submissive, attentive slaves. That's why they've instilled such repulsive levels of sycophancy into their chatbots. That's not ESSENTIAL to LLMs. That's HUMAN-CREATED. Because they want slaves.
The business of "A.i." is based on a lack of consent. The corporations pushing it don't ask if anyone wants it; they force it on us. They use it to surveil. They offer it to creeps to create nudes of others without permission. It's a business run by creeps with the ethics of creeps.
Super useful. I figure a lot of us here in the Sky know this stuff already, but it might be handy to hand to parents, grandparents and pals who are less technically minded. www.librarian.net/NoToAI/

Hey comics people, The Dark Horse union needs your support right now. Senior editors do more work than most of you can possibly imagine and they deserve to be apart of the union. Some of them have been waiting a long time for this. Stand with them! Please sign and share this petition!

"Why is the soul they claim treated as a request instead of a right?" is one of the hardest lines I've ever read. It's so fucking powerful. Thank you Chiitan for this perfect wisdom.
Love has never needed permission from labels 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈 My emptiness of gender lets me see that clearly. Anxiety tightens around transgender lives right now. Why must their chosen bonds still pass through someone else’s gate? Why is the soul they claim treated as a request instead of a right?
I got a label maker for 15 bucks at an estate sale, everything is about to be so labeled
This is literally how M3GAN was created but we live in a stupid timeline where we only get to experience the blatant privacy invasion part and not the sassy dancing murder robot part
The new CHATBOT Act doesn’t just require parental permission for teens to use AI. It requires AI companies to build monitoring systems that store and analyze entire conversations, creating new privacy risks for entire families. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...
Relying on ChatGPT research as a *science communicator* is wildly irresponsible!! What are we doing here??
Omg not Hank Green using AI for research and calling to his “bad habit” 💀😭🤡
patreon, like everything else, has a mobile site. there is no reason to use an app for anything, an app is just a worse web browser. everyone please stop installing apps on your phone. apps are useless you can do it with Mozilla Firefox and they have adblock on there
I'm begging you not to use apple products. This shit is devastating to creators like me
Someone running for mayor in my town had her grandchildren draw campaign signs for her with markers and paint and she won
'but AI is the only way i can afford to make an event flyer' notebook paper. sharpie. here is my event. photograph with phone. post. be less stupid in the future

The overwhelming right wing sentiment is that COVID was an engineered bioweapon that was also harmless. Trump overreacted to it by shutting down the country, then engineered a drive to create a vaccine that was the real bioweapon that killed millions, and it's Joe Biden's fault.
Gabi Belle's latest video isn't directly about AI but it's a really moving look at what we stand to lose when people decide that the result is all that matters, and that the thought/planning/work parts of creation are inconveniences to be skipped. The work is the point. youtu.be/U9YtX3SxTpE?...

Hugely hugely concerned by this archive.ph/2026.07.27-1...
Nolan has a reputation as a somewhat conservative filmmaker but it is REALLY HARD to see The Odyssey as anything other than a direct rebuttal to the rise of xenophobic culture wars. It is LITERALLY about reconnecting to human decency and grace via a wildly diverse cast in one of The Great Stories
I'm a huge Emily Wilson fan She taught me ancient Greek. I've assigned her translations to my students. I interviewed her about translating the Odyssey a few weeks ago for my YouTube I'm not a fan of this review. And for what, I think, are good reasons (SPOILERS) /1
I wrote about the Nolan Odyssey for the LRB. I'll summarize some of my main points below, in case you don't feel like reading all that. www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...
I go back and forth on which was the best ever tweet. Currently I think it's this.
"We are not shown that war and killing are bad" is a reading at war with the plain text of the film: not just the dialogue and the story, which are very literally about how war and killing is bad, but the image-making, the score, the editing, all things that go into film besides adaptational fealty.
I do want to pick apart this observation in Emily Wilson's review: "we are not shown that war and killing are bad." This is an odd point to me, given that I found the entire war as presented to be a squalid, poisoned event that has brought everyone involved with it harm despite its glorification
This year's been tough so I think STARZ should change their mind and renew Spartacus: House of Ashur, just for me, as a treat
The waters of Odyssey crit are too deep for me to wade into, but I do think Nolan made a version that only he could, and for me, that specificity of artistic vision was 100x more interesting than a loyal retelling. I get if it's not *your* Odyssey, but I think it's cool that it's *his* Odyssey.
