When people talking about immigration being bad say it’s not about me, I don’t accept it. How dare they tell me not to have solidarity with my fellow immigrants

Visited the Cathedral in 2017 - we entered during liturgy, and even as an atheist it was majestic and moving. This is heartbreaking. We were touring Kyiv with the colleagues who were hosting us for a workshop, who at the time told us of their time taking part in the Euromaidan protests.

The other thing is, people need to *argue* for this; people need to stand up for these norms and to those who test them at the edges. Especially people in position of power. Instead, we get "respect for legitimate concerns", even when those "concerns" are regurgitated conspiracy theories.

On February 24th, VERTIC & @rusi.bsky.social hosted a book launch & panel discussion on Dr. John Walker's new book, Britiain & Weapons of Mass Destruction Verification. The book discusses Dr. Walker's three decades of contributions to the development of multiple arms control verification regimes.
Claude cannot actually feel, it can't think, it doesn't have opinions, it isn't self aware, it doesn't have context outside the immediate window you are using it with. By asking for its comment on war crimes you are legitimizing the idea that it can be used autonomously or for war at all. Stop it.
If only there was a treaty with clear provisions forbidding it and setting out how to verify such an allegation. If only. I'm sure that if anyone had aired this idea before now, both the US and China would have RUSHED to ratify it. Alas, we only thing of good ideas way late.

This is very good indeed on how Mahmood talks about race. To suggest that immigration policy and racism are linked "reflects this government’s biggest failing, which is that it is essentially incapable of saying that racism is wrong, full stop".

Sarah Owen MP@sarahowen.org.uk · 9mo agoThere is no evidence that stripping refugees' rights one by one will have any impact on people crossing the channel. Taking jewellery from refugees is akin to painting over murals for refugee children. These repugnant ‘deterrents’ did not work for the Tories, and they won't work for us.
Confiscating jewellery from survivors of a war zone makes you look like a fucking Nazi. And the obscene thing is, that is the intention. It's there to look appropriately harsh. Indecent. Filthy. A moral stain. And no-one of good character would have ever proposed such a thing in the first place.
The breadth of "You have no idea what crazy shit we've tried and shelved decades ago, youngling. Your stupid idea is both stupid and not new. Better people than you have been this stupid." in the nuclear weapons program is quite impressive.
