It’s been a huge week in Bogotá for the Amazon Summit. The decision to adopt the Mechanism for Amazonian Indigenous Peoples participation (MAPI for its acronym in Spanish) to bring Indigenous nations into the formal governance structure of the Amazon Treaty is historic.

Huge news from the InterAmerican Court. So much to process in the 300+ pages but the finding is clear and should send a message across the Americas and the world "States are obliged to... supervise and control, as a minimum the exploration, extraction, transport and processing of fossil fuels"

I got 99 reasons to plant trees, but carbon offsetting ain't one.
Want to plant trees to offset fossil fuels? You'd need all of North and Central America, study finds
Planting trees can help save the planet, right? A new study finds that to offset all the planet-warming carbon emissions from fossil fuel reserves, trees would have to entirely cover an area the size ...

Equally shitty is that this is also true at fossil fuel extraction sites: so many missing & murdered Indigenous women, in particular, have disappeared in proximity to "man camps" for oil & gas mining.

The African Development Bank did not approve any direct funding for fossil fuel projects in 2024, but its failure to exclude #FossilGas leaves the door open for backsliding. Continued investment in gas risks locking #African countries into stranded assets, energy insecurity, and inequality.

If the club “exists to win premierships” it has to ask how it’s working toward that goal with current setup. Deluded if they think Ins post bye will make a difference. I think they’ve missed a trick by not putting Marshall on long term injury list and going to MSD. Connected to Ken imo

A great start to an historic event in Cartagena. Intersections btwn clean air, human health and our energy systems have never been clearer. We face a real cross roads on public priorities - we can keep paying our own public money to burn our lungs and our climate or we can choose the side of life!

A new paper from Drew Shindell and @joerirogelj.bsky.social shows that using carbon dioxide removal for anything other than "hard to abate" emissions and overshoot would make achieving net-zero emissions impossible.
very much this. the threat of fossil fuels is existential not only to the biosphere but to our human systems too. they literally poison everything they come into contact with.

This misprojection continues to be true year on year. Sadly fossil fuel emissions peaks continues to be a year away. Evrry year. 2024 was the year with highest coal consumption in history. We have to tackle fossil fuel use head on and not hope RE will displace them as a matter of course.
