Three raccoons in a fancy vest. In the near past, Creator/Editor of the Story Seed Vault (on hiatus). Chronically ill & tired of it.

In asking archaeologists to unify over a more apolitical archaeology, you are explicitly asking marginalised archaeologists to reject parts of themselves for the sake of civility. You’re asking people who recognise injustice to remain silent. Why would I want to be in a group like that?

I’m so tired of the push for an ‘apolotical archaeology organisation’. Recognising that the discipline is inherently political and yet demanding that our organisations that represent us limit their ‘political engagement’ (which here means recognition of the genocide in Palestine!) is cowardly shit

A LinkedIn post from Professor Christian Horn which reads, “Two weeks ago, I wrote that EAA members should vote for the candidate whose vision for the Association most closely matches their own.
My vision for the EAA is an open and inclusive association that does not discriminate based on ethnicity, gender, religion, or nationality.
I also believe there should be limits to the political issues in which the EAA becomes involved. I agree that archaeology is inherently political. However, our political engagement should remain within the bounds of our profession, where our expertise genuinely applies.
Beyond our professional expertise, our opinions carry no greater authority than those of anyone else. If we allow the EAA to become a forum for debating every political issue of the day, we risk descending into the kind of polarised exchanges that dominate social media.
Anyone who witnessed the last Special Meeting will understand my concern.
Every individual member is, of course, free to hold whatever political views they choose. But within the EAA, what should unite us is our archaeological work and our profession.”

I cannot express how fucking difficult it is to need a support worker when your body stops working like it should. In a time of peak vulnerability, I am trusting a stranger to communicate with me effectively & to handle things that would normally be either private or easy to do for most people.

Oh hell yes!!! Please invent a safer battery!! I got an refurbished S22, not knowing they are notorious for overheating. I got it less than 6 months ago & already exchanged it once because the battery was rapidly expanding. Unlucky for me, the replacement phone now overheats sitting in my pocket.

Batteries based on sodium ions are entering mass production. Nature reports how some researchers say they could ultimately be a cheaper, safer alternative to lithium in electric cars and other energy applications. 🌎🧪
