I don't know how effective a viewer boycott of the show could be--I guess we'll see--but I do think a media boycott would have some impact. If all the websites that would ordinarily cover this from every angle just greet it with oceans of silence...maybe it'd mean something.

Worth reiterating every time that this is not some cancel-culture purity test: JK Rowling has pledged more than a billion dollars of her Harry Potter money towards bankrolling anti-trans lawsuits. This finances that.

I’m surprised by how little attention this case has gotten. Even I didn’t really register it for a while. This entire family of three permanent residents were summarily detained without even the option of bond, all as collective punishment for one one of them being the son of an Iranian official

Today in @thenation.com: a harrowing piece written from inside the Dilley ICE detention center by Maryam Tahmasebi, a green card holder who's been locked up along with her husband and son for months despite none of them committing any crime. www.thenation.com/article/soci...

The continued flagellation of Marco Rubio, who has to go to work in weird Trump shoes and listen to stone-cold craziness every day of his life and now finds out he was put on a plane that may have been targeted by a missile is the Wile E. Coyote Looney-Tunes karma that some days keeps me bouncing.

ISRAEL WARNED U.S. OF IRANIAN PLOT TO TARGET TRUMP AND AIR FORCE ONE WITH SHOULDER-FIRED MISSILES; TRUMP SECRETLY MOVED TO MILITARY JET AS RUBIO AND STAFF REMAINED ABOARD AS DECOY — WSJ

Groypers, white nationalists, and neo-Nazis sympathizers have infiltrated every level of the Trump administration. They work in DHS. They work in the White House. The ADL has done very little to identify and target these individuals. And yet, they target individual Mamdani staffers. It’s insane.

The federal government may be disappearing minorities, executing enemies of the state on the street, and creating death camps—but at least the ADL is doing Canary Mission for New York City officials! I’ve never felt safer as a Jew. Thank you

The ADL has a website dedicated to attacking Mamdani staffers—including my friend Waleed Shahid. The ADL is applying a level of scrutiny to him they aren’t applying to literal neo-Nazis working in the federal government. Waleed has a Jewish wife and child. The ADL is a disgrace.

I find it funny (sad, not haha) that the east coast got smoke from Canada and it was the end of the world according to the news. Meanwhile, around 20% of Spokane is displaced due to fires. The entire town of Malden is being evacuated. 136k acres burning on tribal land. Just 🤷 from national news.

The Atlantic has done excellent work on the literacy crisis, the decline of attention, the collapse of reading, the rise of AI etc. How can that be squared with a social media post describing a novel as “a long book to read that contains hundreds of pages of interesting material”?

The Atlantic@theatlantic.com · 3d ago

If you’re looking for a long book to read that contains hundreds of pages of interesting material to keep you enthralled, @sophiegilbert.bsky.social recommends “The Circle.” See The Atlantic’s full summer reading guide: theatln.tc/aOo6jjjn

Cliff Stoll (kooky scientist, Cold War era hacker, klein bottles) published a 1995 essay and then a book claiming the web was overhyped and apparently it became known for being so wrong. But overall I think he really nailed it!!!!!

Pretty soon the FDA is going to put out an alert saying: “We’re just gonna need everyone to stop eating for a week or two while we figure this stuff out.”

I find it fascinating that in the 1990s, the US managed to re-create early twentieth-century Vienna café culture only to have it gradually decay over the first quarter of the twenty-first century such that now most coffee shops are closed by six PM.
