Meh.

After finding guanciale for $27/lb at the local fancy-ass butcher (and telling them to fuck off with that nonsense) I later found myself in a more modest grocery which happened to have a whole “cured pig parts” case. That bag of cured jowls made some damn fine carbonara tonight.

Up on a roof and was watching a dude hucking demolished insulation into a dumpster bag barehanded. Was fortunate enough to see his foreman swing by and berate him for it. “Buddy, you’re handling fiberglass with bare hands. You do what you want, but I ain’t the one grabbin your pecker.”

Cheryl has made a fine point. I, nor other safety professionals, have really said much about general safety precepts as they relate to AI, as opposed to the bullshit artist millenarian cultists that are happy to do so at length. One of the reasons is "These tools are an active detriment to safety."

There are general safety precepts that can be applied to AI as much as to handling plutonium. I've been kind of wondering why @funranium hasn't said much about this. The details are outside my experience, but the precepts seem to be unknown to those doing the experiments.

I LOVE knowing about obscure stuff like this! I also love the feeling of being confronted with a field so TOTALLY out of my daily experience that I actually have to sit down and THINK just to understand the concepts involved, let alone the underlying expertise. The world is amazing!

Platform proposal: If Dems win double majority, they impeach Trump and deliver him in chains to Tehran as a goodwill gesture. Not sure it’ll end the war, but it certainly would show willing.

A tetanus-diphtheria vaccine that doesn’t need a fridge has passed its first human trial. UK scientists reformulated a licensed shot using trehalose, the sugar that lets desert plants survive without water, keeping it stable for up to two years at 30°C. Gavi buff.ly/1kNIUHB #ShareGoodNewsToo

Fridge-free vaccine passes first human trial, raising hopes for the hardest-to-reach

Unreliable electricity makes it hard to keep vaccines at the right temperature – this development could change that.
