The Athabasca Glacier in Canada is one of the most accessible and visited glaciers in the world. As such, its retreat is well documented, rendering glacial change apparent. Explore this glacier and others with NSIDC's Glacier Photograph Collection: https://bit.ly/4e6aBpD

"So you expect every author to check every citation is real and accurate?" YES, in fact, we do. The very *best* explanation for having a fake or inaccurate citation is that you were misleading your readers by dishonestly padding your citations! That's unacceptable!

I'm sorry, what? In writing my first monograph, I spent six weeks trying to track down a citation in TWO languages I didn't know. And good thing too, because the citation was wrong. That's scholarship. That's research. You know, the thing we're trained to do?!?

The reactions of some researchers on Twitter finally being held responsible for not having read the very paper they submitted are... something. Mainly, they don't think they should have to check every citation or make sure the data is real and accurate. Because it's too hard, I guess.

Like Antarctic ice cores & the climate perspective they provide? They only happen with the 7 decades of sustained support we’ve given to the National Science Foundation, United States Antarctic Program, and Operation Deep Freeze. My two cents (or 180 seconds):

Per office hours today, NSF Office of Polar Programs now in Office of the Director. Arctic and Antarctic Sciences sections now one Polar Science. Doing more with less vibes. Administration priorities heavily feature in slide deck, as does AI content in slides which conveys a lot between the lines…
