I missed the bus, so Lime carried me home on the last leg of my Day 7 #WeekWithoutDriving journey. Hot tip: Lime’s offering a 50% off discount code for the Week Without Driving: WWD26 And Veo’s offering a $5 ride credit: CARFREE26 The only thing missing? Protected bike lanes on Connecticut Ave…

On day 7 of the #WeekWithoutDriving, this scene on Columbia Rd NW made me smile. Tons of people waiting for and boarding the bus from a bus island, a bike rider passing through unimpeded and protected, and the sidewalk I was on had with plenty of space for pedestrians to travel.

I’ve been a quiet fan of “PerformanceStat” models for 15 years now, since learning how New Orleans was remediating 15,000 vacant properties via the BlightStat leadership approach. Couldn’t be more excited to now listen to Martin O’Malley, godfather of PerformanceStat, share how he made it happen.
From her seat on the D44, JLG promises a new approach to transit -- but it's one that comes with its own pitfalls.
Janeese Lewis George pledges a new approach to transit
The presumptive major is pledging a new approach. But can she push past critics?

Packed room for the housing panel at the @dcpolicycenter.bsky.social “A City that Works” forum, digging into DC’s housing production challenges. We have a housing shortage, and our local conditions mean we need to be that much more creative and bold to address it. Glad to be here today.
On day 3 of the #WeekWithoutDriving, I’m thinking about the vital role of crosstown transit…after just missing a C61 😖. Routes that don’t follow a typical commuter route are more likely to be used by caregivers and women. High-frequency crosstown buses are key to making transit work for everyone.
It's autumn in DC so you know what that means: Found a mosquito in my condo almost every day this week.
brb, tattooing “we don’t need to study the study" on my lower back
For the DC Week Without Driving, @janeese4dc.bsky.social joined @ggwash.org organizers (and @elissasilverman.bsky.social) for a bus ride from Petworth to downtown. JLG emphasized her desire to get projects like the Georgia Ave dedicated lane done quickly: “We don’t need to study the study.”
Absolutely no better way to start off the #weekwithoutdriving than to hop on the D44 and talk about bus transit with Councilmembers @janeese4dc.bsky.social and @elissasilverman.bsky.social! Thank you so much for recognizing the needs of nondrivers in DC. @ggwash.org

Kicking off the DC #weekwithoutdriving with a trip crosstown on the C61 to the Yellow Line…for a special @ggwash.org Week Without Driving event. 👀
Last night’s @ggwash.org Fall Mixer was a joy at a time when it’s sorely needed. Thank you everyone for coming out to support GGWash’s growth, our work, and our community -- you!
Toilets were the talk of the town tonight. Thank you to the 35+ people who came out! It was honestly heartening to see how much people care about this aspect of inclusivity in our public spaces.
Let’s talk sh*t tonight! No, seriously: The American Restroom Association is joining GGWash at Sonny’s on Georgia Ave to hang out and chat about public restroom access. When it comes to creating cities that work for everyone, bathrooms are an underrated urbanist issue. ggwash.org/calendar/eve...

As a GGWasher and former ANC, I am SO stoked to get this resource out into the world. Read, search, and please share with DC voters in your life! Huge props to @kaihall10.bsky.social for building this — it was a big lift. We’ll update this with ANC endorsements once those are published.

@wmata.com Hello! Green Line train car number 6054 doesn’t have working A/C.
One of the lessons I learned over and over again during my time as an ANC is just how many good policies fail due to poor implementation. Not in a dramatic way, either! Just because there’s a pervasive lack of accountability for making sure basic things happen. It transcends any particular agency.
Imagine: You live in a nice neighborhood that you love and you've decided that the best use of some of your precious mortal days on this earth is to try to prevent others from also being able to live in and love that nice neighborhood. wtop.com/montgomery-c...

Fighting, and winning, the good fight. Absolutely love to see this.
NEW: We defeated a lawsuit seeking to block new housing on upper Connecticut Avenue NW. The lawsuit challenged zoning changes that will allow multifamily housing in the DC neighborhood with the fewest affordable units. We’re fighting for more homes to drive down housing costs for everyone in DC.
More housing, better transit, and smarter land use were on the ballot in DC, and won big. #ggwash #prohousing #yimby #transit #election
Progressives across the United States want to copy the social housing program Andrew Friedson helped create–and that's just the beginning. Read how GGWash's pick for Montgomery County Executive will build more homes for more people

"it’s clear to me how exclusionary zoning preserves segregation and exacerbates displacement. The rent hikes that my family experienced in 2010 might not have been so drastic if single-family zoning in the District’s most affluent neighborhoods hadn’t long prevented more homes" - JLG
