If you see Trump's "diesel deal" to Putin as anything other than direct aid to Russia to continue their illegal war and war crimes against Ukraine then you do not understand what is happening.

"Targeting those who bankroll the Russian war machine through oil purchases will crush Putin's ability to fund his war." — Senate GOP, July 28 Ten weeks later, Trump is making oil deals with Putin. A brief history of Republicans being against this, until they weren't 👇

⚡️ Dropping sanctions on Russian billionaires Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman crosses a dangerous line. 🧵 1/8 ⬇️

Dear tv and radio producers. Thankyou for the invitation. But, no, I do not want to appear on your show to defend the idea that I am English, after 50 years of living and working here, because the increasingly feral right want to turn this into a "debate" and you cannot see how you're being played

"By using AI, tasks like essays that used to take hours can be completed in minutes!" Sure, like how if I arrive at the gym and immediately go for a shower, my workout is done in record time. And if I throw my sandwiches straight in the bin, I can finish my lunch in under 10 seconds.

Ever since I first saw it, this scene has epitomised Amerlcan elegance for me. I wrote a short story about it for Radio 4 (never broadcast) and it's why I drink Gibsons even though nobody who works in a bar these days knows what they are. A perfect scene - RIP Eva Marie Saint.

NEW: October 17 marks a global event called “Origin,” focused on Earth regeneration. Rather than a movement to directly influence climate policy or polluting companies, Origin promises change through synchronized prayer and body movement. Behind it? A fossil fuel heiress and an anti-vaccine doctor

UAE officials have warned the UK that a severe punishment for Man City could hurt future Emirati investment in Britain, Bloomberg reports. This is the perfect argument for keeping foreign money out of football.

From asking around today the sense seems to be that he’s genuinely worried about the impact on Mcr - he also said something about wanting to “review” decision when it first leaked - and has made an unusual error in not reading the room (+mistakenly equated it too closely to the Everton situation)

Surprising for Burnham's first error in public comms being on football (and by being quite a long way from the instincts of many Evertonians + most other fans) www.theguardian.com/football/202...

Chris Dixon posted this on LI and I had to share it here. It’s just too good, the @jonronson.bsky.social twist is superb…

New Mystic Meg prediction by Daniel Hannan who famously predicted the ‘blue eyed Sheikhs’ of Iceland Banking would would save us in 2004, Brexit Britain would be booming in 2026, and that Covid wouldn’t kill anyone in 2020 In other words, we will be rejoining the EU

One for the great grandads.

Better to say nothing. At the moment it looks like it would be much better if they sold City and gave it a fresh start, after ruining 15 years of the Premier League with their cheating. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Andy Burnham 'really concerned' if Man City owners sell up after rule breaches

The prime minister compares the allegations against Man City to the plight of his own club Everton.

I really do think tech crossed a line at some point between "helping you do the things you want to do" on the one hand, and "helping you do the things tech wants you to do" on the other. At this point, we're all contorting ourselves to live how the tech industry thinks we should be living.

I volunteered for Childline for a decade at uni and I know firsthand a snapshot of how many lives Esther Rantzen changed. Her later years were known for assisted dying but her legacy will be giving vulnerable children someone to listen to and care. www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio...

Dame Esther Rantzen. TV legend I was an avid fan as a child. Now I can't get my head around how massive That's Life! was. 15-20 million viewers a week Consumer affairs, human interest, investigative reporting, sketches, carrots that looked like genitals. 5 shows rolled into one uniting a nation

Such sad news that the legendary Dame Esther Rantzen has passed away. Campaigning right until the very end. It was an honour to interview her several times in her final years. Thoughts with her family, who loved her so dearly.

Most TV is just this now.

Man City arranged "sham contracts" with a number of commercial partners as part of a scheme to disguise secret funding of more than £830m, the Premier League says. City recorded £360m in sponsor fees in the 3 seasons they won the Prem League - 2012, 2014, and 2018. Only £43m of it was legitimate.

It's as if Andy Burnham had been injected with a truth drug. Brexit has done more harm than good, so let's try other options. Triple lock has to go, social care will be reformed if it kills us, double or quits...it's absolutely working in the hall, in the emotion of the moment. But outside it?

On this day in 1998, Joni Mitchell released her 16th studio album. It was her last album of completely original material until she released Shine in 2007. The album received one Juno nomination for Best Pop/Adult Album.
