whenever someone tells you that it's simply impossible for police to be charged with misconduct or criminal charges, you can tell they're wrong because some cops do get charged regularly — when they are whistleblowers or reformers prosecutors are actually extremely eager to help drum them out!

Human communication involves not only internal coherence but also reference to shared reality, and communicated words, thus, carry extensions, relations to the actual nature of things in the world, which calculated words do not (Bunz, 2026). Two terms may share the adjacent intension in a high-dimensional vector space while differing radically in extension, a phenomenon impossible in communicated language, but routine in calculation. The result is writing that is relevant without being reliable; contextually proximate, but not anchored to the things those words ostensibly name. “Hallucination,” then, is not a bug awaiting a patch but a symptomatic expression of this structural condition. When users treat LLM outputs as communications of “meaning” rather than calculations of form, they engage in “human hallucination”, anthropomorphizing generated writing by conceptualizing it in the image of human expression (Bunz, 2026), producing a systematic over-attribution of understanding to systems where none exists. Training critical thinkers to recognize the mode of production underlying a text, rather than reasoning solely from its surface fluency, thus becomes a pedagogical obligation. Of note, this argument does not claim that LLMs are useless.‡

This is why I like saying "all LLM output is 'hallucination'"; don't remember where I picked it up from but it's brief but says so much. Tho AFAIU a lot of the effect is also coming from a lot of tricky heuristic scripting around the models that second guess the users.

The goal here is to eliminate trans people's ability to exist in public. But note that it will also have the impact of being able to police anyone whose gender presentation does not match what they believe it is, because how do you even know someone is trans?

EHRC now saying that not only should trans people be excluded from sex segregated spaces, but ALSO those matching birth sex: “A legitimate aim for excluding a trans person from … service for their own biological sex …to prevent alarm or distress for other service users.” archive.ph/2025.08.07-2...

The Times understands that the guidance is still being finalised and it will not decree that services have to provide single-sex spaces, but that if they do - for example if a lavatory is intended for women - transgender women would be excluded from using it. To allow someone of the opposite sex to use the facilities would be very likely to amount to unlawful discrimination. It will also make clear that it will not be deemed as discrimination to exclude trans people from those facilities and that services will be allowed to request birth certificates to ensure single-sex services are protected.
