This report is shocking. I knew things were dire for many families in NZ but that thousands are experiencing 'food insecurity' is mind blowing. Also to hear that 40% of the take home pay of those in serious need is going into the pockets of landlords shows how deeply this government doesn't care

'10.2% of #NZ pop has relative income poverty. 473,000 people are in material hardship. 1 in 3 lives have food insecurity. #Neoliberal #Austerity #AtlasNetwork govts have done this! assetsales+privatising services, job & pay cuts. We need Greens✅ #WealthTax #nzpol www.rnz.co.nz/news/busines...

First, I am not a massive fan of GDP as a measure, but make no mistake, 2024 and 2025 were spectacularly bad. We skewered ourselves good. RBNZ knocked the economy out and Luxon and Willis kicked it in the head as it fell. Lowest average QoQ growth in the OECD 🫡 [2/n]

Monthly price data is out. Only covers about half of the CPI basket but it is clear that fuel prices (yellow/tan) will be pushing on CPI for Q2. Thankfully, RBNZ are hiking interest rates to demonstrate their blind faith in medieval monetarism (careers depend on it).

Quick reminder that labour introduced a tax transparency bill that would report on how fair our tax system is anually and the first thing luxons govt did was repeal it so that nobody would get that information.

I am utterly fucked off the media keep treating the coalition like they have any kind of competency or their term has managed any measure of success Its failed on every front, inflation, business, wages, growth, tax, crime, everything they said they would 'fix' is fucked #nzpol

>>>there were 551 fewer building and construction companies in business at the end of 2025<<< Wow! National just keep destroying businesses! (Marx & Lenin send their approval!) It may be left to a Labour-led govt to rebuild this sector!! www.rnz.co.nz/news/busines...

After the Trump administration deleted government sites that helped visitors understand global heating, scientists, nonprofits, academic institutions, and former federal workers joined forces to re-publish the information and protect it from future political attacks. By Kate Yoder for @grist.org:

The plan to make climate science harder to erase

As climate information disappears from federal websites, scientists are rebuilding it elsewhere.

New Zealand's real wage growth over the past 5 years: -6.4%. Worst in the OECD. Growth just barely positive (Mar 2026 quarter), June expected to slip back. Inflation still at 3.9% peak. RBNZ raising the OCR to 2.5%. The coalition inherited this and hasn't turned it. Wages tell the story. #nzpol

Reserve Bank rate hike hits Kiwi households enduring worst wage squeeze in developed world

While the central bank looks for economic growth in the stars, new OECD data reveals New Zealanders' after-inflation wages plummeted 6.4 percent. Jonathan Milne reports.

The plan: forever warp the job market through taxpayer-funded subsidies of unsustainable AI businesses just long enough for all other companies to lay off millions of workers and reorient their work processes around proprietary technology and then once this is accomplished, raise inference prices.
