I really don’t like nosiness. I do not mind interest. The difference lies in attitude. Interest is aware it’s self-indulgent and therefore not demanding nor persistent. It won’t view your information as their right and will back off when you’re not volunteering. Nosiness is the opposite.

While the code has (thankfully) iterated a few times, the principles of KanjiBox remain the same: spaced-repetition system, with fully algorithmic (no AI) selection of similar/confusing answers to make the drills harder. (full disclosure: I *do* use agentic AI in my IDE, but not vibe-code slop)

"Is KanjiBox an AI-based language app?" The first version of KanjiBox was written as a "Facebook app" (remember those?!) 19 years ago. Yes, that's a `1` and a `9`… I think we can safely say it is AI slop-free. 😉 #kanjibox #kanji #japanese

KanjiBox is and will always remain a *one-time* payment app. Subscription pricing is a great way for publishers to charge a lot more, while simultaneously appearing cheaper. Companies and VCs love that model. As a user, I thoroughly despise it. And have no intention to ever move KanjiBox to it.

I feel the main point of video games right now is that if I catch myself scrolling too much on social media I can say to myself, "if I'm gonna waste my time I'd might as well be playing a video game, which would actually be fun." It's hard to argue with that logic
