It's fair to say regulation is yimby's top priority. What's wrong is that "regulatory reform" is a euphemism for deregulation. The yimby program is the opposite of dergulation; it seeks to impose uniform rules on a chaotic system of arbitrary local decisions made by small local interest groups.

Today I took my kids to a beach that is backed by a bit of forest and wow the beach and water were overrun with spotted lantern flies. Did you know they can swim? Oh yes, they appear to enjoy swimming. And they're dumb as cicadas, flying into me constantly. It was not pleasant.

This is not even close to the most important thing about Trump's unprovoked aggression against Canada, but since housing policy is my lane, I'm required to note that launching a trade war against a major source of imported lumber is a great way to spike housing costs even further.

A rainbow and a reset. After the storms, this stunning rainbow stretched across the DC skyline toward the Jefferson Memorial. It marked the end of the heat wave, the end of today's storm threat, and the clearing of much of the wildfire smoke. 📷: Edward MacNabb

We acknowledge that manual coders and engineers, including C, Haskell, and Java speaking peoples, have stewarded through generations the compilers and datasets of what is now Claude Code. We honor and respect the enduring relationship that exists between these peoples and nations and this LLM.

I'm leading this bike ride! I've got my playlist all queued up. Also we're having pupusas at Doña Azucena at the end! Ride past some proposed upzonings, see some nice community spaces, talk with planners about how awesome new housing can be. I suspect @ggwash.org readers will like this ride too.

For an assignment, I spent 1.5 hours at a stop sign by U of T. Out of 228 vehicles, 208 did not stop. 59 when pedestrians were waiting or actively crossing. I saw 20/228 (9%) lawful interactions w/ that stop sign. If police showed any force to even one of those 208 drivers, there would be riots.

Video of what appears to be multiple @tps.ca officers tackling & arresting a cyclist during a stop sign trap on the MGT. Cyclist - "What did I do wrong?" Cop - "You didn't stop." If true, this is excessive use of force for a traffic stop. Mayor Chow & @ausmalik.bsky.social plz look into this.
