Hey hive mind-- I'm Going Through Some Shit and would love some beautiful, fun, brightly colored, gorgeous movies that work better than drugs to help me escape. Hit me with your favorites for this. Nothing gritty or sad, please. Violence or horror are OK if it's like this movie:

At least he’s saying out loud what I’ve assumed is tacitly a belief of many men who swarmed to be part of this administration & party — “If that abuser can get elected/appointed & not get ‘canceled’ surely I — a similar kind of abuser — can do it too”
TAPPER: Hold on -- hold on, 'cause I'm not done with the list of women who have accused you of violence. Are all three of them lying? REP. MAX MILLER: Yes. And I'm not getting out of the race because in 2016, President Donald J Trump faced the most extreme allegations in the world ...
All this to say, when we say "Men don't do the dishes!" What we mean is that men as a class benefit from the privilege of being able to use social power to make the Other do the dishes, and has material reasons to want to preserve that. Even if you personally do the dishes, Chad. 17/18
So when we say "Men do x", we can be partaking in some cheeky gender essentialism, as a treat. Or we can be talking about men as a class, men as an arbitrary category with power over the Other. 13/?
Gender is better understood as a class, the way race is better understood as a class. Gender is a power relation, born out of arbitrary social definitions. 12/?
And the reason for that is that whiteness is defined by what it's not. White the race that it's not Other. It's the race that is not systemically oppressed. It's a category of exclusion. 6/?
Whether someone realizes it or not, accepting the "liberal bubble" framing at all is a way of granting the utterly absurd notion that the globally reviled and increasingly unpopular views of the reactionary right are the norm
"Liberal bubble" has only ever meant anywhere where right wing perspectives aren't artificially elevated and forced into everyone's feeds.
we are at the point where huge swathes of the media sees their only job as getting attention from the public and giving nothing back and you're supposed to juuust tell enough truth that you can't be called an outright liar, just get the click anyhow, it is used car sales masquerading as journalism
It’s like how there was that one professor who thought the recent interstellar asteroids were likely to be alien spaceships, and even though the rest of the scientific community disagreed with him, it was reported as “scientist says…”
The platforms selling companion-bot products know it's just pattern matching and that the models don't learn anything abstract from training, so they are intentionally tuning it for engagement over realism, to target vulnerable users. Meta does it as well with those awful Messenger bots.
I think the saddest thing I see is that to endorse generative AI, many of its defenders also have to adjust their definition of what accuracy and competence are... and then wind up defending inaccuracy and incompetence. Truly irrational.
Generative AI psychosis and delusion is a real thing, as is the degradation of analytical skills. This increasingly makes conversations difficult with those who have "converted" to using it. Along with the clickbait-ification of everything and the adoption of predatory logarithms. Stay vigilant.
stop. making. people. feel like. chatbots. are "conversational" and their friends.
My new investigation into a mass shooter’s harrowing history with ChatGPT reveals numerous red flags—and some very disturbing ChatGPT replies—from long before his attack on Florida State University www.motherjones.com/media/2026/0... 1x 🧵
Bradbury was a terrific prose stylist & knew how to gut a reader. And knew a thing or two about human nature.
Today, August 4, 2026, is the setting of Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” about a fully automated house continuing on after the family who lived there and the world around it died in a nuclear blast.
Echoing comments by Musk and others on the right about “woke AI,” a recent FTC statement claims AI companies may be required by state laws or simply “tempted” to train LLMs such as Claude and ChatGPT to deliver “ideologically motivated distortions” to consumers expecting objective answers.
Correct, the point isn’t to make them feel shame. The point is to reinforce the group norms.
They may be shameless, but shunning, booing and not accepting them into public spaces is the correct response.
I will fight and die on the hill that no one fought braver and better in 1940 than the French army in June, knowing that their best troops had already been lost and the Germans would show them little mercy
This is profoundly upsetting
Many platforms are more afraid of being called woke than they are afraid of letting nazis in. The truth is that no one likes hanging out with nazis, not even nazis. If you give them Twitter and everyone else leaves, they would still not be happy. They will then want to go where everyone else is.
Yep. One of the most disgusting things about the US is that at most points in US history, white people could insult other white people, just by suggesting that they care about other people. So white folk deny it. "I'm not an n-word lover, but..." "I'm not PC, but.." "I'm not woke, but..." 🤷🏿♂️

You should not use demographics when creating products or services. Reason #2 of 6: Demographics bleed over into propaganda, to make people think of a group as bad, show contempt for them, or give them unjust treatment. Demographics are truly dangerous in this context.
Protesters at Delaney Hall mourn the death of Edwin Jovanny Lopez Cornejo, 39, a diabetic who died in ICE detention. His mom says he was denied his medication. Spending time outside Delaney, we hear the same story again & again from families: their loved ones are being denied care & medicine.
However horrible you think the Tate brothers are, I promise, it's worse than that. It's insane that Dems aren't making a bigger deal of the GOP embracing these grotesque monsters.
The Tate Brothers' Should Be The Trumps' Second Epstein Scandal
The truth is much worse than most people realize, and they knew a lot of it.

What is he talking about? All of the top US cities are Blue cities!🤷🏿♂️ The biggest red cities are Jacksonville FL and Oklahoma city. The minute you start talking about real cities of any size, LA, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, etc, they're all Blue. Because diversity brings prosperity and vice versa.
Trump: "Look at the blue cities. What do they have in common? They're all dirty. They're filthy dirty. Their streets are dirty. Their streets smell. Their storefronts are broken. Their trees are all gross. Everything about the place is dirty. It's really all of them."
Stuff that sucks. “The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative had funneled more than $125 million into The Primary School over a decade — barely a footnote in the power couple’s balance sheet. The families of those enrolled in the school were devastated by the news.”
Her foundation is pivoting to AI instead.
Every now and then someone takes a run at me along the lines of "I don't understand why you, a scifi writer, don't appreciate 'AI'," and I'm all, motherfucker, it's *because* I'm a science fiction writer I have the positions I have, how many times do we have to fucking yell "torment nexus," my dude

Here's this week's Better Offline - I'm joined by Nik Suresh to talk about how AI mania is eviscerating global decision-making, creating a culture of fear that demands workers lie about the benefits of AI to coddle Business Idiots. youtu.be/OrKSaVDu8nM?... linktr.ee/betteroffline
Anybody at @moderation.bsky.app want to try to explain why they suspended @matthewcort.land, ANOTHER of the most prominent people out here fighting for disabled and marginalized people? Like… are y'all planning to suspend/ban literally every disabled legal scholar/policy worker out here, orrrr…?
anyway, if you're looking for Matthew Cortland, you should sub to their patreon since they're a disabled lawyer evidently getting deplatformed from places.
This was maddening — there was clear evidence it was harmful to kids early on and yet
And covid was not harmless to children. Being at lower risk than adults does not mean harmless. There was acute illness needing hospital, late onset rare but serious inflammatory disease, Long Covid and 13,000 UK children who lost a parent. (more details in substack post at end) 8/12
