All this to say, when we say "Men don't do the dishes!" What we mean is that men as a class benefit from the privilege of being able to use social power to make the Other do the dishes, and has material reasons to want to preserve that. Even if you personally do the dishes, Chad. 17/18

So when we say "Men do x", we can be partaking in some cheeky gender essentialism, as a treat. Or we can be talking about men as a class, men as an arbitrary category with power over the Other. 13/?

Gender is better understood as a class, the way race is better understood as a class. Gender is a power relation, born out of arbitrary social definitions. 12/?

And the reason for that is that whiteness is defined by what it's not. White the race that it's not Other. It's the race that is not systemically oppressed. It's a category of exclusion. 6/?

It’s like how there was that one professor who thought the recent interstellar asteroids were likely to be alien spaceships, and even though the rest of the scientific community disagreed with him, it was reported as “scientist says…”

The platforms selling companion-bot products know it's just pattern matching and that the models don't learn anything abstract from training, so they are intentionally tuning it for engagement over realism, to target vulnerable users. Meta does it as well with those awful Messenger bots.

I think the saddest thing I see is that to endorse generative AI, many of its defenders also have to adjust their definition of what accuracy and competence are... and then wind up defending inaccuracy and incompetence. Truly irrational.

Generative AI psychosis and delusion is a real thing, as is the degradation of analytical skills. This increasingly makes conversations difficult with those who have "converted" to using it. Along with the clickbait-ification of everything and the adoption of predatory logarithms. Stay vigilant.

Echoing comments by Musk and others on the right about “woke AI,” a recent FTC statement claims AI companies may be required by state laws or simply “tempted” to train LLMs such as Claude and ChatGPT to deliver “ideologically motivated distortions” to consumers expecting objective answers.

Correct, the point isn’t to make them feel shame. The point is to reinforce the group norms.

Many platforms are more afraid of being called woke than they are afraid of letting nazis in. The truth is that no one likes hanging out with nazis, not even nazis. If you give them Twitter and everyone else leaves, they would still not be happy. They will then want to go where everyone else is.

You should not use demographics when creating products or services. Reason #2 of 6: Demographics bleed over into propaganda, to make people think of a group as bad, show contempt for them, or give them unjust treatment. Demographics are truly dangerous in this context.

And covid was not harmless to children. Being at lower risk than adults does not mean harmless. There was acute illness needing hospital, late onset rare but serious inflammatory disease, Long Covid and 13,000 UK children who lost a parent. (more details in substack post at end) 8/12
