Just heard the sad news about John Douglas. Trashcan Sinatras brought out some of the catchiest, jangliest, bleakest, most uplifting pop music. It seems preposterous they never had a proper hit record. I was at Lampeter in 1990, but in regular touch with my mate Pete back in Watford.-

I’m bored of waking up and seeing a picture of a demonstrably shit golfer say the same old bollocks next to a tied back curtain by an aeroplane toilet

It's easy to look back at the Covid years & imagine that it was a big fuss about nothing "given what we now know".The point is nobody knew it then.It was a completely new disease.Nobody had a clue how destructive it might be,or how transmissible it was.Even with the measures in place, thousands died-

I remember once wearing an Yves Saint Laurent jacket to a party and somebody slagged me off for actually using it as an item of clothing rather than keeping it pristine "as an investment" and I laughed so much that I dribbled some wine down the front of it which made him even madder-

Conti's Cafe, Lampeter. 1933-2026. More or less as it was when I was there. This photo's from 2008 but before it was renovated, so it's pretty much as I remember it. Home to a jukebox with a ferociously warped copy of Taja Sevelle's Love Is Contagious & vendor of the best coffee in West Wales. -

A cafe called Conti's in Lampeter, Wales. There's a large plastic ice cream to the left of a brown front door. The storefront is a kind of faded yellow colour. An old wooden sign has Conti's Cafe carved into it. Through the big glass window you can see hanging light bulbs in clear glass lampshades and evidence of a dark, fuggy interior and the dim shapes of a few people. There's a massive pot plant in the right of the window. On the wall next to the window is a notice board that probably has council notices on it. It wasn't the sort of place to have a menu.

The saddest news of all. A business there for just shy of 90 years. And a casualty of the closure of St David’s College. This is going to happen all over the country where and when universities and colleges start closing down due to the higher education funding crisis.

The end of an era....

It was not a decision taken lightly but due to very deep personal reasons the doors of Conti's Cafe in Lampeter will close for the very last time tomorrow. The memories will live on for many of you who frequented the cafe i'm sure there are many stories to share, if only walls could talk.
A warm welcome is extended to you all to visit the cafe for the last time, Bryn Fon will be present from around 3 onwards to entertain you all.

Is this trolling or do you genuinely think this? A south coast nature reserve is on fire, it’s too hot to work in offices without air conditioning, people are dying from the temperatures. As you would say, give your head a wobble.
