let’s aim to meet the needs of all, within the means of the planet. as a goal, it’s that simple!

Idea: To stop wildfire smoke from Canada, build a wall the entire length of the US/Canada border and the height of the tropopause (let’s make it 15 km to be safe). Or we can stop burning fossil fuels.

It’s always been arrogant to assume that we can predict even most of the costs of #ClimateChange. Let alone presume that we can properly quantify them, and successfully adapt to them. A key word with a lot of our climate failure is arrogance. Along with selfishness and greed. #ClimateCrisis

We didn't previously integrate wildfire-smoke costs into the supposed cost of climate change for the US, and it turns out to be bigger than all those other costs combined. Oops! Gosh I wonder if we're underestimating anything else. Probably shoulda done something about this. Ah well.

We’re never going to live on Mars. We’re never going to live on the Moon. There is no Planet B. We need to take care of our magical mystical miraculous planet like it’s the only home we will ever have. Because it is.

The Gilded Age came to an end, and so could today’s billionaire-dominated world. The super-rich want us to believe we can’t tax them – so it’s heartening to know we’ve done it before. @CanadianLabour @OPSEU @CUPEOntario www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...

Linda McQuaig: A wealth tax could transform our world

Although scorned today, America’s robust taxation of the rich in the middle of the last century amounted to an astonishing achievement of popular democracy, with huge public benefits.

The pipeline announcement begins with Carney acknowledging, without a hint of irony, the “biblical weather” in Ottawa yesterday. Extreme weather huh? Like the kind exacerbated by climate change? You don’t say! Hm!!!!

Very interesting post here by @mliebreich.bsky.social. Even more interesting to note that Mark Carney recently signalled his intention to implement a version of point #6 -- one that has particular relevance for Canada's electrification efforts. open.substack.com/pub/mliebrei...

Make Electricity Cheap Again!

Electricity needs to be cheap, clean, abundant and resilient. Here's my 8-point plan to turn the current Power Price Doom Loop into an Electrification Virtuous Circle.

With a new Prime Minister on the horizon, we have a golden opportunity to rewrite the rules. Now is the time to make our demands heard and force the next leader to clamp down on corporate tax dodging. It’s time Amazon paid their fair share for the services we all rely on:

We pay our dues. They should too.

Amazon made £55 MILLION in profit in the UK last year, but only paid a fraction of what they should in tax. Jeff Bezos is rubbing his hands together, avoiding tax, while we pay our dues. Don't think…
