A fun and gratifying event today at the oldest public library in the US, in Franklin, Mass. as governor Maura Healey signed the Massachusetts Freedom to Read Bill. The speeches were all really good. And kudos to @authorsabb.bsky.social and @massaabb.bsky.social for years of hard work.

A trio of Senate Republicans from Indiana, Oklahoma, & Alabama have introduced S 4925 a copy of HR 7661- the exact same text, which would ban any book mentioning "gender dysphoria or transgenderism" from all public schools in the US. The ex-wife of the ICE officer who shot a 26-year-old Colombian man in Maine has come forward to say that he had mental health issues and was abusive in their relationship. She says after the shooting he called asking her to vouch for him — instead, she went to the press.

In addition to writing spec fic, I also coach writers on book marketing. That means I help writers pick the best strategies to promote their work and learn the jargon to self-advocate!

This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days. ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.

He had a visit with an adopter with a dog who LOVED Levon and wanted to play and wrestle and chase. But Levon isn’t like that. It wasn’t a good fit. He’s an old poet living within a 2yo dog.
This whole thread! As a teen, I read adult books because I was a big reader but I sought out YA because I wanted to see teens reflected on the page who were dynamic characters with their own agency and wants and stories.
