I think the weirdest part of this when it was happening was how many of them were saying stuff like "finally, women are getting a taste of what it's like to be judged about an aspect of their bodies they can't control!" Just living on a completely different plane of reality

My uncle told me a story about a particularly charismatic Catholic priest who ministered to Belfast dockworkers in the early 20C. Apparently 1 time he got them all so worked up that when he asked "do you reject Satan and all his works?" one of them yelled back "yeah, fuck the devil he's a bastard!"

Great example of how making Twitter into a reactionary echo chamber has weirdly backfired on a lot of its users by making them more and more out of touch. Most people I know who went to see the Odyssey weren't even aware Nyong'o was in it. It was only the "biggest talking point" to racists on X

Good piece, but is this part really true? My impression was always that was how Kirk styled himself, but his audience was always older Republicans convinced they'd found someone who cut through to the young.

At the peak of his influence, Kirk was Maga's youth whisperer, able to generate viral clips tat extended the Republican party's reach.
