I've only seen juvenile spotted towhees for the first time this year. They don't have red eyes yet, and they're brown. 📷🌿🪶

This is Comet Leonard during its approach to the Sun, imaged by Gerald Rhemann on Christmas Day 2021. The comet had been discovered earlier that year, and broke apart in 2022. This photo won the overall prize for Rhemann of the Royal Observatory Greenwich's Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2022.

A bright point of light at the top of the image is the comet's nucleus; the comet's gas and dust tails trail from the nucleus to the bottom of the image. Complex structures in the dust tail result from outbursts from the nucleus as it undergoes solar heating.

Redhead ducks dive under the water to feed, and like other diving birds, they need a run before they get airborne. This female Redhead had just landed in the marsh and, you guessed it, the horned grebe enforcer had issues! She is running at top speed here as she gets ready to lift off! #Birds 🪶

I happened to live in Lexington, KY when Joel Pett drew this for the Lexington Herald-Leader. It has stuck with me all these years because it's so dead-on the type of idiocy climate change deniers engage in.

It's apparently Pollinator Week so here is a sparkly bicolored striped sweat bee doing good work These colorful bees live in communal dirt burrows in our small Chicago yard and make good use of the many native and non-native flowers growing around our neighborhood #BringBackThePollinators
