All the hysteria and rhetoric that consumed a community around these bike lanes ended and now no one talks about them and people use them (including those with mobility devices) all the time for work, school, play and everything in between. Change is hard for some people but we all adapt.

two days after Vancouver city council voted down their own Villages Plan, west side residents who opposed the plan en masse are complaining that Dunbar (!!) doesn’t have any wine bars, boutiques or gyms — the kind of amenities that require neighbourhood density to support

Hi fellow neighbours. Have you ever wondered why Dunbar has been so slow to develop decent shops and restaurants? Dunbar & King Ed; Dunbar & W 16th; Dunbar & W 41st - all pretty well trafficed intersections yet theres no decent pub, restaurant or wine bar. No boutique shops or decent shopping. There's also no decent gym besides the community centres which are fine but not if you like specialized equipment. What gives? I've been in Dunbar for over 10 years & more recently moved to Southlands. Before that was in Kits. Kits is vibrant but a different crowd. Would love to see some better business development in Dunbar / Southlands & area. Closest thing is Kerrisdale - concentrated to a few blocks, still only one decent wine bar - not much selection.

Listening to a spokesperson for some residents in Mt Pleasant facing eviction after their 1960s apt building's rezoning to a hotel was approved recently by city council, she was coming across as sympathetic until she asserted only solution was for the bldg owner to buy each resident a new condo! 👀

Thank you to all who have shared your condolences about Mike's passing - it is overwhelming. There will be a celebration of life for Mike on August 9 at Dogwood Pavilion in Coquitlam - and a livestream to ensure all who were touched by him may come should they wish. More details later. Sylvia

This, but I don't think the planners should quit. There's a civic election in October and it'll be a whole new ball game. Maybe.

ABC told planners what to do, the planners did it well, and they changed their mind and used them for political bait. The Villages plan is in the approved Vancouver plan ffs! I hope Josh White and other senior leadership quit. This is why good planners no longer work in the City of Vancouver.

Yesterday, ABC walked away from their Villages Plan. The plan was not perfect and people didn’t feel heard. But here’s what was on the table: homes, for people and families, that are much more affordable than the ruinously expensive single family homes that are there today.
