It was a week of transition/turn-over, setting realistic expectations for a sustainable people-street, and rolling out new ideas. And people came, especially kids! A strong start to build on, & more coming!
…and Mayor Ken Sim and ABC cut the Planning Department’s budget by 15% in their election-year Zero Means Zero 2026 austerity budget.
This is ABC. Push staff to meet a deadline they impose, throw them under the bus when the plan comes under scrutiny, and then blame staff to their big money backers. We must do better.

But who told city staff to come up with a transformative plan? Here’s the receipts.
A OneCity government will finish what it starts. We’ll take the good things in the plan, work with staff to improve it, reengage, and move our city forward.

Last week, Ken Sim's ABC approved a motion that would slam the door on vital health services that save lives, connect people to care, and provide treatment for drug addiction. I'm deeply concerned that this will create barriers to offering harm reduction services that cannot be overcome.
New hyperscale AI data centres are coming to Vancouver. We need to make sure our laws are up to the task of regulating them, constraining bad actors, and addressing any risks to the community. I gave ABC a chance to do all of that. Instead, they voted the motion down, calling it 'red tape'.
Vancouver learned from other cities’ experiences when implementing our e-scooter share scheme but we won’t be doing the same with AI Data Centres. Find out more in my City Hall update for this week.

AI data centres need to be regulated. Before Vancouver approves additional AI data centres, we need to fully understand their impact on water, power, noise, jobs, and land. And if projects move forward, we need to hold them accountable. ↪️ Next week, I’m bringing forward a motion to do just that.
Today I moved multiple amendments to the motion to extend the Granville Street Pedestrian Zone to September. We need to commit fully to a 3-year seasonal pilot to ensure Vancouver's investment and this opportunity we've been given aren't wasted.
