In chapter 4 of Middlemen now. Going slowly because it is mostly my reading while bottle feeding the six-month-old. Really powerful mix of archival work, sociological method, zooming in for literary analysis of canonical examples. Quite inspiring. Also it’s very funny. Hard to do in academic work!!

I wrote about David Milch's memoir Life's Work - an astonishing book in many ways; written with encroaching dementia on the author's shoulder, it shouldn't exist, but it does, and it provides remarkable insight into creativity & what it's for, why we need it. www.patreon.com/weirdandconf...

And just to remain frustratingly inconsistent, I’ll jump first this time: THREE WISE MEN [comedy] Three bumbling buddies lost in the Mexican desert on Christmas Eve team to help a pregnant young woman trying to hike to Texas before she gives birth in the wilderness.
So Earth has travelled about 11.2 million miles in the seven days since the last time we did this, so I figure it’s well past time. #FirstPageFriday, my fellow shaved apes! Or #FunPageFriday if you’re not into that whole beginnings thing. Flaunt your fictions! Drop some trou! Have fun! #scriptsky

My youngest daughter has been a HUGE fan of adult animation since 2nd grade. Her favorite is FUTURAMA and was so excited that @ericrogers.bsky.social sent her some of the comics he wrote when we worked on the show. Here she is reading one to Zoidberg's wife. You made her week 😊
Got notes back from @phoenixblack.bsky.social on a recent draft. I can only say that they were both humbling & inspirational. Phoenix brings a depth of focus and clear understanding to her read that cuts to the essence of what needs work. & when she likes something, you know she means it. Tanx P!
Finally caught DISCOVERY DAY: a nice surprise! The one thing that jumped out, that I'd never really thought of before, was just how bad the aliens DRIVE on earth! They're in a dozen wrecks. They fly 100s of lightyears without incident, then BAM they hit Nevada and crash in an empty desert. Weird.
I'm making this a 'quote post' just so I can fucking post this again.

You suddenly get a narrator describing your life and there’s no way to turn it off - everyone can hear it. While shopping, at work, at home, with friends - the voice narrating your every move goes on. Who do you hope is the voice of this narrator?
Gorgeous out tonight. Not *quite* as bright as the picture would suggest, but it was still pretty spectacular.

In theory, the moral clarity and steadfastness demonstrated in this statement condemning Israel’s war crimes should be the bare minimum. But in the meantime, Mamdani is a giant among cowardly politicians.
Benjamin Netanyahu is a war criminal.
Excellent—and fun—interview on CBC Radio 1 with Jesse Armstrong, creator and showrunner of SUCCESSION. (And I did not know, or did not remember maybe, that he wrote 15 episodes of BBC’s outstanding THE THICK OF IT.) youtu.be/oh8a2wo7Ctg

I would've thought asking questions about Paxton's crimes would be understood as questions about law and order. Or did Paxton mean Law & Order (duh dun) the TV show?
Huge credit to these reporters for not kissing ass and changing the subject. They all kept on him, AS THEY SHOULD. Well done.
We exist in a money-hungry society that values capitol over human life. It is becoming more evident every day that it is no longer tenable. Either we change the system or the planet dies...and humanity along with it: "SMOKE", a triptych, 6ft10"x20foot, charcoal & graphite on paper, ©LaurieLipton

REDNECKS & GREEN MEN When aliens land in a tiny East Texas town hoping to make first contact, the local rednecks, police, military, special forces, UFO nuts, surf-rockers, kids, hippies, and pie vendors all converge and respond clumsily at a pop-up rave. #FirstPageFriday #FunPageFriday #ScriptSky

Hi guys I really need your help. My mom commissioned an audiobook version of her novel, which was published by a very small press that gave her ZERO publicity support. She’s gotten 100 reviews all on her own! Please share these links! a.co/d/0audu6VB www.barnesandnoble.com/w/under-wate...
