Man it is WILD that they have had to put out so many announcements to this effect because jagoffs won't stop flying drones and private planes IN THE WAY OF THE FIREFIGHTING AIRCRAFT. What are we even doing here

Frankly, I think the best thing to come out of this movie is the possibility of drag performances referencing Homeric works and the high likelihood of someone using the name Gagamemnon.

I know that a lot of people are reasonably tired of the Odyssey discourse and the discourse ABOUT the Odyssey discourse but my feed here is full of opinions about something I care about (it's truly been the summer of monoculture!) and also I'm a messy bitch who loves drama. 10/10 no notes all around

JUST IN: Elon Musk says Grok will make a "full-length movie" of The Odyssey that is "historically accurate" by the end of this year.

A lot of this is my own baggage, but I did my PhD at Michigan, a department that was well represented in things like the Women's Classical Caucus, and I nonetheless absorbed the implicit sense that people who "work on gender" (however we would want to define that) aren't "real philologists."

I'm out here laughing at the weirdest Odyssey takes that have crossed my bluesky path and meanwhile, on Facebook, there's levels of wacky content showing up in feeds that I can't even imagine.

a) college is not trade school. the point is not only to get a high paying job b) this will destroy fields like social work and librarianship, which are super important but wildly underpaid even though they often require advanced degrees in part because they’re “care” jobs primarily held by women

If an undergraduate program's graduates don't earn more than workers who never went to college, that program could be cut off from federal student loans. But is a degree just about making more money?

From a very normal National Review article about the Odyssey and I'm fascinated by the straws people will grasp to insist that their opposition to this movie isn't ginned up, overly- online racism. There are things you could fairly criticize but not while staying on brand, so IMAX it is, boys!

lol. Our trip to see the Odyssey in NYC made it into @variety.com. And I had to dir at this snippet from @sentantiq.bsky.social: variety.com/2026/film/ne... This is a great review.

I think my favorite part of the Odyssey movie was the post-credit scene where we got to see all the other guys in Hades and Achilles kept insisting on doing bits. Casting Carrot Top as Achilles was a weird choice but I do think it worked.

Very excited to be able to participate in this important discourse now that I've seen it!

Academics and technologists are sounding the alarm about a growing crisis in scholarship as we know it: AI-generated citations of nonexistent papers that have infested real journals. Despite being fake, the sources are widely assumed to be authentic the more they appear in published literature.

Really excited to learn more about this ancient Greek concept of love that they called . . . ludus? For fans of explaining how CS Lewis is kind of doing his own particular thing and it's not really a good representation of ancient Greek word and concept use, now there's 7!

So, my only concern with going full Carrie Nation is that i don't want people to hear "carry" and think it's a guns rights thing and it's really exclusively about hatchets and my new platform of Prediction Prohibition™
