ENVI voted 56:32 in favour of the new regulation of NGTs! #GiveGenesAChance 🇪🇺
Today is a big moment for the future of European agriculture. After over two years of negotiations the EU Parliament's ENVI committee will vote on the New Genomic Techniques (NGTs) file. We've been there since the beginning advocating for NGTs to improve EU sustainability & food security.
⏳ Only 2 days left for poster abstract submissions considered for a poster talk at #BT2026, the International Conference of our @plantsciencedbg.bsky.social (DBG) 🚨 Deadline is 11 June 2026, 23:59 (CEST)
Abstract submission deadline extended for 2 types of posters to present your #plantsci work at our #BT2026 to an international plant science audience 📍 in Bochum, Germany 📅 6-10 Sept 2026 www.deutsche-botanische-gesellschaft.de/u/BT2026ext

Strasburger was also the doctoral advisor of Friedrich Laibach, the "Father of Arabidopsis research". Laibach first encountered Arabidopsis as student in Strasburger's lab, where he found that it carried 5 pairs of chromosomes. Who knows if we would be working on Arabidopsis without Strasburger...
Laibach started work on A. thaliana in 1907, when, for his PhD-thesis, he determined the number of chromosomes in different plants he collected around his hometown Limburg, & #UniBonn, where he worked. A. thaliana only had 5 chromosomes, one of the fewest he found.
We have a winner 🏅for the @plantsciencedbg.bsky.social Eduard-Strasburger-Award. More on the awardee soon. Stay tuned
