August started with my friend Nelda’s funeral. A beautiful service for a beautiful lady. Now, I am painting on my deck on a gorgeous summer day. Sad day, but a beautiful day full of love and community. August is already 3 million times better than July. July 2026 is in the rear view.

I lost another friend last night. I’ve lost 5 people close to my heart in AK since 7/4. This isn’t about me- there are so many people hurting, navigating incredible grief right now and the world just keeps worlding. Go do the things that bring you joy. Love your people and tell them. Love you ❤️

Momma and twins. Look at their little moose butts! Gunther dog ran right by and didn’t care. I’m guessing momma already had a convo w/him. He was super happy.

Objective: still life, an object that is meaningful. Lily of the valley from my garden, porcelain straw glass from Karlovy Vary, Czech. Very symbolic to me. This is a 16” x 20”, my first large format painting, first true still life. EeK! I did it! Learned a ton!

I’m kind of bummed that the World Cup will be over today. Despite FIFA being FIFA, I had a great time watching, Seattle, Spokane and my own living room were great venues to support the teams. The matches and stories were incredible!

How to *NOT* impress a cute hockey man from Alberta: 1. Tell him you love Winnipeg 2. Comment Wayne Gretzky makes such bad wine that all of his hockey accomplishments should be voided. Anyhoo- this is an old friend who played for the Alaska Nanooks 1997-2001. CCHA days. Good times. 🐻‍❄️💙
